Bridge 2.5?

Why wouldn’t Apple? There’re lots of streamers and network transports with Airplay.

Because if PSA called it the AirLens consumers might be confused and think it was an Apple product (Apple makes streaming products like AppleTV), which would (in Apple Legal’s mind) damage Apple’s brand. None of those other streamers with Airplay would dare consider calling their product “Air” anything, I submit

Oh yeah I get it now. They need to call it Bridge box 2. (Of course assuming bridge box 1 makes it out.)

Thanks for sharing.

Really interesting to see the newer cards being made - and what particularly piqued my interest was the one with DSD256, PCM 384 (and MQA decoding up to 384), with I2S out.

Plus Roon, Tidal, Qobuz, Airplay support.

And at 65 mm x 40, I’d expect it would fit in a small unit.

That ticks all the boxes!

@Paul, any chance the external bridge box could accommodate the newer bridge card - that would be one hot product.

Bridge two … troubled waters! Sorry, it just popped into my head …

Edit: Apologies to Job_Jalink, I hadn’t read his post when I posted this.

There is also a similar product from Stream Unlimited that might be a better option but like Conversdigital will only sell to OEM’s in quantity.

Actually, the AirLens was going to have AirPlay. They had it certified by Apple but after all the work Apple informed them the chip required to do this had a 52 week lead time. The horribly ironic aspect of this is the AirLens may be delayed long enough that the chip delay was not the longest lead item.

Sure that was the initial plan but it didn’t happen. As you say delay not the problem any more. Let’s see if it happens. I predict you’ll see a different name if the product is ever actually released

If you are referring to Apple objecting to the name, I would assume PS Audio told them the name of the product so there should be no issue.

Can you name even one other product in a space Apple plays in that includes “Air” in its name? Do you think that’s coincidence?

It’s a clever name, but the instant I saw it I thought, hmmm, let’s see how this plays out……probably not gonna end well

A few questions about replacing a Bridge II card for a modified DS Sr./TSS:

I would use the Holo instead of the AirLens for ethernet > i2S > modified DS Sr. (or > TSS when it is available) using mConnect software on android for Qobuz only.

  1. The specs says “Holo Audio “RED” is a Network Streamer with I2S HDMI output supporting DSD up to 512 and it can be used as DDC (USB to I2S or SPDIF converter)”. Is the “DSD up to 512” equivalent to the AirLens I2S output when using ethernet input or would I want DSD 1024 to avoid upgrading later?

  2. In some places in the Holo advertising says “DSD 1024” and other places “DSD 512”. I think for my application ethernet > I2S, it would use DSD 512. Is this correct? Do I want DSD 1024 to take full advantage of the DS Sr. and TSS? (Kind of a repeat of question #1)

  3. Would I be using the Holo as a “DDC”?

Let me know if there are other major points that I’m missing. I use ISO Plus filters for RFI on the ethernet cable for galvanic isolation.

In your case you would be using the Red strictly as a streamer via the I2S output. The DDC would not come into play in your application. And yes the DSD limit via I2S is 512 and 1024 via USB though if I remember correctly that is with a future update. Try both outputs and pick the one that sounds best to you. If you use the same cable for the test you may find it a mute point with something other than the Mk I. Neither DSD output limit is relevant with the Mk I. All that will be different in your setup is that you will need to purchase an HDMI cable and if you chose upgrade the PC on the Red.

Air Jordans? But those May predate Apple

Imaging this thing made by 2 elements I suggest:

EB - EXTERNAL BRIDGE

“Bridge II* and an *External Bridge Box”

I personally like":

“Bridge 2.5”.

-or-

“Bridge 2e”, “B2e” for shorthand. The “e” denoting “external”.
