Really? Yes you press the button on the web page, but the manual talks about you have to insert a card with the image to be flashed etc. This is for the set up the OS. I’m assuming the process is the same for an update.

FYI that diagram is from the manual. So the manual has that small text in the box that says linear psu.

As far as the update, is the new button for OS or application (both)? the manual talks about putting OS on the SD card, but wondering if that is for changing OS? Or if that is how you update OS. I am thinking OS is via SD card and app via NEW button.

Yes that’s the but that’s not clear to me. The manual doesn’t explicitly say anything about updating firmware, only about installing the OS.

Check what they do for their DACs. I did a quick search and didn’t find anything about how to do the update for those

From the information I have gathered from the Head-Fi thread the Red OS is preloaded on the SD card in the box and has to be loaded. You then check for updates over the internet and they should get written to the SD card loaded in the RED.

Would the Holo Audio - Red streamer perform better than the Bridge 2.5 in a box? Is there any reason to wait for the Bride 2.5 in a box?

The Red will feature much newer technology and is available now so not sure of a reason to wait around. In the end the Bridge 2.5 will still be using the base model Conversdigital board that’s been around for years.

LAN vs USB? That is the only reason why I was curious to know what the AirLens can bring… time will tell.

Not sure what LAN vs USB means but now we know from Paul’s post the mystical AirLens is just another Conversdigital board in a separate box and an updated version of Bridge 2.5. As such it will have the same software and support issues as the Bridge II did. There is no way it can realistically compete with your Innuos Statement that is built from the ground up. You now own one on the finest streaming solutions on the market so just enjoy it and concentrate on other parts of your system and room construction.

Sorry for the cryptical post.

I was referring to 2 possible ways to go to the new highly performing inputs of the MK II.

  1. One way is following the USB path, via I2S (Matrix or similar) or directly (from a server/streamer). I agree with you in my case the Statement USB output seems to be really excellent and I don’t feel the urgency to experiment other solutions.

  2. The other way is excluding any USB connections:

  • using the Bridge Box
  • using the AirLens, as originally designed and via I2S (if one day…)
  • others similar (don’t know if the Red has this capability)

In my case a switch like the PhoenixNET would be used not only from the wall to the server (just like I’m already using it because Innuos recommends to keep it connected to the Statement) but also from the PhoenixNET to the I2S input of the MK II via AirLens (if and when…).

I remember how often Paul attested to highly prefer the I2S (and wifi/wired internet connection) path compared to a USB connection. Maybe this way of thinking was related to old computers/servers/DACs involved at the time he shared his thoughts.
Probably things have changed (a lot) now. He recently said that now I2S is no more a better choice due to the MK II USB input galvanically isolation.

We are speculating on “boxes” that doesn’t exist yet. Time will tell.

Firmware is download button as is os as I understand it. If you change to another os, which you can have on another sd car think firmware updates come the same way, but not sure what firmware updates there will be

Hope you’re right! I bought mine used so didn’t need to install anything, but if there’s an update…

Yes Red does both on both USB and i2s. I’m using i2s.

One thing with the Red I will be missing (which I dont have now anyway) is MQA. Lumin does that, but not sure that is worth the extra $1600

Lumin’s only do full MQA if you buy a unit with a built in DAC and go through the analog outputs not the digital ones.

The U2 says it can. It also added higher rate DSD
