Bridge II 3.6.86 is ready for updating

Many thanks deanhorn!

Seems like the ā€œjump to 50ā€ in DSjr happens when the dac is turned on from cold. When the dac heats up and you have the patience to turn the volume back to 100 a few times, it stays there. The problem may return later if you use the remote thoughā€¦

The Attenuator lock has never functioned in my DSjr. Itā€™s set to locked and I can adjust volume.

Welcome, Finin

The attenuator lock prevents the attenuator from changing from low to high, or from high to low. It does not lock the volume. You can still adjust the volume to your preference.

Ok, thanks. Somewhat strange function to have, I guess someone in the world might need it.

It is most useful if you want to be certain your system doe not suddenly get much louder when the attenuator is accidentally disengaged.

The DSJ jump to 50 issue during playback is a defect and PSA is working on a patch.

Hi all,

Unfortunately Iā€™m one of those users with the DSj 50 volume issue.

@dancingsea gave me some help, and I also exchanged some e-mails with TJ from PS Audio. Thank you.

The issue is very random. Sometimes it happens from cold start, and after a few volume up and downs it settles. Some other times, it remains ok even after cold start.

Is this an unidentified (by PS Audio) bug or this isnā€™t random and has something to do with temperature stabilization (just a thought!)?

As a DSj (outstanding DAC) happy owner, what I would much appreciate is a patch to definitively disable Bridge circuit by FW (not the same as cable unplugged), therefore making the DSj just that - an outstanding DAC (without a streamer).
If I recall, this was already referred in the forum.

Is this possible PS Audio?

Many thanks.

My dsd sr. volume goes to 50 also. If i change anything upstream, change cat cables,dc cables, power on or off switch / any lps i have, disconnect i2s and sometimes just during playback with any input and so onā€¦and tadaaā€¦ volume 50

Never had a problem before with bridge2 ,except with album covers. This is much worse problem, phuh.

Since I reinstalled Snowmass my DSJ only reverts to 50 once after first being turned on. From that point forward it behaves like normal.

Perhaps @tedsmith has some suggestions of how to completely disable the Bridge in the DSJ? DS owners report sonic improvements from removing the Bridge, Iā€™m curious if the same is true for the DSJ?

Starting in the last release (or perhaps the next release) much of the bridge is powered off when itā€™s not in use. If you are never going to use the bridge it is a module that can be removed by hand - but putting it back wrong is easy and could do serious damage to the whole DAC when power is applied.

@tedsmith, Thatā€™s interesting. Would removing the Bridge reduce heat within the DSJ?

Has anyone removed the Bridge from the DSJ? Is it easy? What were the sonic and hardware results?

Would removing it void the warranty?

And where can I get instructions, written for the common man, of how to remove the cursed Bridge II?

If you are turning it off at the power switch rather than putting in in standby, it will come back on at a lower volume as a safety feature. I think my DS Sr comes back at 25.

Yes, that part is fine. Our issue has been that if jumps to 50 randomly during song playbackā€¦ currently Iā€™m finding it goes to 50 once when first turned on, and then once again within the first few minutes of playback. But after reinstalling snowmass, it does not do it again for the entire listening session.

Did you connect the DSJr. to the Ethernet? I disconnected the Ethernet cable and it triggered the problem.

@soundfever Did you have to downgrade the software all the way to Huron to make the Bridge update happen? I tried without the downgrade (I have to move furniture to get behind my DS Jr) and nothing happens. Before I start moving furniture thought Iā€™d ask.

I did disconnect the Ethernet. But like I said, for me the Snowmass reinstall has largely resolved the issue.

@RayK To be honest, I didnā€™t really know what I was doing(being new to the DSJ) or looking to update the Bridge. I was looking around at the menu, came across the Bridge option, next I see the update bridge. I selected it and all done. I didnā€™t see the Bridge upgrade option in the first few times that I play around in the menu.

Unfortunately, in my case, is much more than a few times upon startup. It takes too long to settle.
After a working day, eager to a nice listening session, and having to keep adjusting the volume is a PITA!
I already re-applied Snowmass 2.02 a several times (with the downloaded files from PS Audio Website and with the force load files sent by @dancingsea and TJ), factory reset, and the issue keeps coming back.

Please PS Audio, do something.

@tedsmith it is really possible to physically remove the Bridge from DSj?
Through the pictures we can see a little board, but is on the i2s port.
It would be magnificent if we can definitively remove the bridge.

Thanks

Have you tried @attmci suggestion of plugging in the Ethernet cable?

No. Not after the second FW reinstall, after Bridge update.

I always kept the ethernet cable unplugged, since many said it was the closest to disable Bridge on the DSj.

Even using USB input, do you keep the ethernet cable connected?

Thanks
