Indeed. Album art continues to be a work in progress. It is a pet peeve of mine, as every rental car does it perfectly on the road wherever I am. That said, SQ is the point.
My update has been going for about an hour - is that normal? Should I start worrying? I donāt want to power cycle it while it says Updating but Iām getting nervous.
Not normal; you are hung up.
Power down and reboot (w/out SD card in the back); then give it another try.
Some say you have to have latest Snowmass firmware installed for the update to work, but that was not my experience. However, I updated through the Mcontrol Mconnect app. not from the DS DAC screen.
Good luck.

Yup - rebooted (with the card in - I hadnāt seen this) and updated again - it worked in like 3 mins - thanks.
I contacted PSA. They suggestion 2 things:
Reinstall Snowmass
With the unit completely off, hold in the front power button while turning it on with the back switch. This does a factory reset.
Iāve done those 2 steps but havenāt had a chance to test with music yetā¦
If those 2 steps donāt work, they suggest reverting to older version of the Bridge which requires a Windows machine.
Reinstalling Snowmass using the files PSA sent me today appears to have fixed the volume going to 50 issueā¦ and I can use the RUR like normal, all is swellā¦ their version of Snowmass, just the file name, had a slightly different number then the one I installed way backā¦
thanks will try thatā¦ - i
I had your same experience. I view the DS like a computer that needs a reboot every now and then
I am pleased to report that after upgrading the Bridge II firmware it has removed a clock based ticking and popping I would get in my left channel when music was paused through Roon. I get a quieter āblack presenceā between songs now as well. Nice work Paul and Team! Keep up the great work!
Richard
One of my hifi buddies is experiencing the same issue. When you say āthe files PSA sent me todayā, do you mean the latest official Snowmass 3.06 or are you talking about a modified file (by PSA) to solve your issue? Can you post the exact filename?
The simplest way to get the exact same files I received is to email TJ at TJT@psaudio.com and ask for the DSJ Snowmass reinstall files to fix the volume going to 50 issue.
They werenāt specifically made for this issue but did have a slightly different file name than my previous Snowmass install.
Thanks. Much appreciated!
For me, my DSJ goes to 50 once when first turned on, but no longer randomly jumps to 50 during playback
Updated my DSJās Bridge II, everything is working fine just like before.
Are you using the bridge? Unplug the Ethernet cable triggers this damn thing (50 volume).
Of course I had a bridge on my DSD Jr. and it fell out favor compared to the usb / Matrix solution. I have just plugged in a Bridge II to my DSD Srā¦ I had not ever had one. On power up I find it is up to date. It sounds really nice. I read so much chatter around here about what a bad device it is and how the DSD Sr. Sounds so much better when you remove the Bridge II card. It convinced me to avoid it. It sounds pretty swell so far, hmmmmmm.
I also have one of them there Gigafoil Inline devices. Iāll have to try that as well. Galvanic Isolation is the latest thing for old men I guess.
I have a GigaFoil4 in my DSJR - it does wonders for the SQ in my opinion.
My DSJ is hanging at 0% update for new Bridge II. Can anyone confirm if one MUST be in Snowmass 2.02? I am in 2.00. I have not had any issue before with the DSJ Bridge/Firmware upgrades.
Thanks!
I had to install Snowmass 2.02 before the bridge would update in my DSJ. Like your experience, I was hanging at 0% too.
