This update does not involve fpga 2 it utilizes areas in fpga 1 that have not been previous used so it does require some break in.
I was under the impression that there was essentially no more space on FPGA1, and even if some stuff could be removed, any subsequent software release would involve using FPGA2. Where did you get this info, and how is which FPGA is used related to length of burn in?
I miss ted’s participation
Yes…holiday…TSS work?
…and you’re in NOLA, ![]()
My understanding was that it was the FPGA in the Mk1 was maxed out. Ted had said that he couldn’t really go much beyond Sunlight without having to figure out what to remove or achieve using fewer resources.
Each of the FPGAs in the Mk2 are several times larger and better structured than the one in the Mk1, allowing for way more math.
That is my understanding. Two FPGA’s are better than one.
The load specifies fpga 1. Ted said that the changes utilize previously unused clocks and switches which will break in. This of course will apply when code is written using fpga 2 also.
Ok. Got it.
Two fpga’s provide more room. Before the issues of parts availabilties the design was for one larger fpga. When they became hard to get changes were implimented to use two smaller ones to achieve the same space.
I had the best listening night ever with the Massive firmware. The DAC had been grinding over 48 hours opening up the FPGA. Having the DS MK2 decoding the BACCH4MAC dSP. The images come out of blackness all over the room. The combination it just amazing. Hard to believe how much this DAC unit improved in 9 months. I am glad I stuck with my Beta unit. Those who didn’t are truly missing out. Good luck finding another MK2 when the word gets out.
I have the BACCH intro edition - the MKII and the BACCH are magic! On to the AirLens!
… I agree in all aspects with you, Straightwire. Room, Separation and Air had been further improved, but especially last silvery or digital glare with Violins or Vocals vanished with Mountain Massive. Thanks to Paul, Ted and the Teams at PS Audio for a great job again.
I suppose you don’t want to try the SR Master again to see if it’s doing any good for you this time.
I’m sure looking forward to a Massive Master experience once I get home in 10 days! ![]()
I don’t have any notions a Master Fuse would ever work for me in my system it trashed stereo as wellas home theater sound equivalently. Good luck with your experience and the fuse.
Sounds like the source feeding your files might be the culprit. What are you using to feed the bit perfect files?
Thanks! What I wrote was really the feeling I had after listening. Huge improvement.
Then there is this from the PSA website (which must have been posted recently, because I have not seen this list of changes discussed here yet):
"The Mount Massive beta release update includes:
- Lowered ultrasonic noise by 30dB
- Moved what ultrasonic noise remains out from 30kHz to beyond 100kHz
- Lowered audible noise by 10dB
- Added a new Digital Lens FPGA buffer
- Improved sound quality dramatically"
@Vmax - great news! Are you still operating with your 3M AB7050HF RF absorber sheets removed from your DS MK2?
