Yup, and this is correct and so too is Beef’s comment. We are going to start building the next 100 pieces because that takes a lot of time for the hardware build.
The beta testing is pretty much all about software/firmware which, once the hardware’s built, we can install those software changes the beta testers discover and we make right.
It is Christmas Day in November. My Mk 2 arrived at 9:45 am. I am very blessed as the projected delivery time was by the end of the day. Out of the box my one word review is WOW! I will wait until I have had more time to soak up all that is going on before I make any further comments! IT is going to be a great day here for sure!
I got the Mk2 and Iconoclast SPTPC speaker cables yesterday within an hour of each other, from different FedEx trucks . I have listened to Mk2 a little (without the new cables in the mix, must adhere to the Scientific
Method) and my reaction is similar to Beef’s and some of the other early listeners. The new DAC is revealing, airy, dynamic, quiet, and above all renders a certain
“rightness” with instrument timbre and tone. This realism is another major step in getting the “digital” out of the recording and replacing it with its organic roots.
It is 7:50am in Bay area, but I got an email that the MK2 is on FedEx truck for delivery! So, I should be safe.
From Paul’s latest beta instruction, my review will give less emphysis on SQ performance because I can predict I will love it very much Instead, I will feed it with all types of digital media to see how is it working.
In the past I have feed PST with my download recordings using DVDs. These recordings include DSD128, 256, PCM 96/24, and 192/24. Sometimes the discs could not be read, and other times there were no issue. I do not know if the problem is from PST or from DS. So I will see if DS MK2 would read them better.
I will also use my streamer to feed local files plus Qobuz/Tidel to see how is the SQ in comparason to PST. With DS, the Summus2 is still no match to PST, but maybe DS MK2 will reduce the SQ difference.
I use AQ Dragon48 I2s, but I still have an AQ Coffee i2s. It will be interesting to find out if the cables will make as much difference as before. I wish I have a USB cable to test the difference too, but I am sure other testers can give feedback on that!
Since my MKII has no promised delivery date. The Iconoclast SPTPC series 2 promise is by 430 PM today. I will have no dilemma in waiting to try them and have them sorted out.
Yes, I’m curious about power cord changes. I think the Mk II should be less sensitive to different power cords and that it should send less crud back out the power cord. But different systems are different systems.
Okay, I deleted the previous post. I unplugged everything and reinstalled the MK2. This time everything works. So, there must be a bad connection I made early. Hopefully, everything goes well from here.
Does seem like a black hole indeed! All the FedEx stories remind me of the complaints people often had about O’Hare airport as a nightmare. But I lived there, so I didn’t have to use it as a pass-through hub to get from A to B, which I gathered was when most had issues. It always worked quite well for me.
The most common change I’ve had on FedEx deliveries has been that it comes a day early. Can’t recall the last time they were late, except during major storms.
