DMP 3.07 firmware released

It’s like polishing a turd. I can’t see it EVER being perfect for every user.

I love the sound of the DMP… but not the functional problems we all have been having since the inception of said machine. In reality…I never wanted a sacd player and only bought the DMP for the quality of sound in regards to redbook playback.
I too am now at the point thinking, yes… it will always be bound by functional issues/problems. With that being said…and with a yet future release of a new DMP-2… sans sacd playback… I would like to see a substantial trade-back policy from PS Audio for those who do not care to have a transport that is not running on all eight cylinders. I feel this would be fair to all involved if needed.

To those having trouble with 3.07, you should NOT copy DMP Release Notes v3.07.pdf to the SD card. This is the first time that an update has included a PDF file, and it makes me wonder if copying that file to the SD card might cause an issue.

I transferred the pdf to the sd card without an issue.

The same for me.

Thanks Lonson – I switched back to 3.06 last night and like you, will wait for the “final” version. The remote works quite well with 3.06 with less overall issues. Thanks again!

I don’t doubt it worked - a quirk if the programmers I guess.
My comment was why ‘expect’ it to work? Perhaps I’ve misunderstood something but I’ve never read in an operational manual a suggestion to use the “back” button/arrow to play a discs last track from the initial load.
The manuals always comment that if you want to select a specific track you use the keypad to choose the track number.
Where did you come across the idea of using the back arrow?

wow, still so many problems…amazing to me that this is still such a problem…my old version works, although not as well as i would like…i will stick with it until i read that a version is bug free and simply works without issue…very disappointing to me as an owner of the DMP and DAC and pre amp…

I look at this in a more positive way.
Let’s say the original convoluted code just happened to work perfectly.
There then might not be any reason to clean it up. And it did sound very good the way it was.
But now a lot of us have noticed significant sound quality increases that otherwise might never have happened.
I can easily deal with the occasional glitch and don’t mind using workarounds to get this kind of sound.

Creature of habit I suppose. My last transport was a Proceed and I used to use the arrows. More importantly, the track 255 is an obvious “bug” and I thought the point of this site was to make the PSA team aware of issues during the beta process.

I have also experienced the "255 bug”.
Extremely minor in the scheme of things.

It shouldn’t matter and I’ve been assured it doesn’t

I remember experiencing it with the PWT.

All in all my upgrade went as it should. My DMP sounds great and does everything that I want it to.

I don’t know of any product perfect for every user but I think the turd analogy’s a just a bit strong. While DMP has some issues most have been resolved and the few remaining will be fixed as promised. Will it ever be perfect? Doubtful, as perfection is in the eye of the beholder. It should be a friendly gorgeous sounding piece of kit that’s both a pleasure to use and a wonderful experience to enjoy and listen to.

Certainly when the next generation player arrives we will make strong allowances for those wishing to upgrade. I promise.

““I can easily deal with the occasional glitch and don’t mind using workarounds to get this kind of sound.””

I, too, agree with you. Apart from a few minor quirks with SACD format - there isn’t anything else untoward with the functionality of my DMP with 3.07.

Makes you wonder how much more there is still to come musically, with each new firmware release fixing functionality, I hear musical improvements and the DMP code still isn’t finalized… The sound quality from Redbook is awesome. We are getting there but it has been a long slugfest.

I have praised PSA products many times and advised potential customers about them, telling them how highly I rate their sound quality… But If I have issues I will say so. The DMP is the “worst” high-end product for functionality issues I have ever owned and I have owned a lot of top notch equipment. You get upset with my vernacular then give a thought to why I said it. I spent big on the DMP, no trade in deals for me. If you want me to leave say so and I will go. Not a problem.

Really? The screen shows track 255, the transport becomes frozen with the exception of the Eject button, and that’s “extremely minor in the scheme of things.” OK, I’ll back off…I assumed all outstanding issues were “minor” at this point. I live in Boulder, can someone knock on my door when this transport is ready for prime time? Please forgive the sarcasm…thank you!

I have seen 255 but it did not freeze up my DMP.
I do not recall exactly how I got out of it but was easily done.
If it happens again I will be sure to report back what happened.

I’m not sure in my system is sounds “better.” Different from 2.08 but I’m not sure better. I don’t doubt others find it better. I am beginning to think that each individual DMP/code combination is like a piece of equipment unto itself, i.e. no two DMP/code versions will sound exactly the same.

As crazy as that sounds, it seems to have already been determined that as far as functionality goes, no two DMPs seem exactly the same so why couldn’t it apply to SQ as well? A number of times along the path of code iterations people would say this version sounds better than that version and my experience would be the opposite.

It really should not ave any effect if you open the LOADER file in note pad there are not any pointers that make reference to it so as far as the load is concerned it is not there.
