DMP Firmware upgrade 3.06 released

I don’t KNOW but then again look at all the problems I have had especially with DS upgrades. I need YOU to tell me because I am flummoxed…as are many others ?? On that long post look how (on my screen anyway) the smiley face says grinning but hasn’t attached - whereas the other smiley face has attached… That is a glitch of some type ?? I am only reporting facts, Paul.

Every DS update since day 1 has been problematic for some people, and it always generates “calls for assistance” forum traffic when every update is released.

BR of Aerosmith’s “Rocks” was a pleasant surprise, sounds unexpectedly good.

Anything from 2L in Norway.

Dirk…Maybe people who bought ‘pre loaded sd cards’ direct from PSA could comment on your findings in concern of home sd downloads vs. pre bought PSA sd downloads.

I can’t help wondering also if the digital lens delay from disk to audio output could have anything to do with operational issues within the DMP.

The pre-loaded SD from PS Audio didn’t work for me.

Maybe the initial CD load play splash bug is the digital lens loading up a buffer prior to play and then dumping it to the output after a time-out.

It couldn’t be simpler. I’m baffled. Even I could do it!

It is odd how anything controlled by a CPU and firmware/OS will update fine for the vast majority, but some will have difficulties. This applies to PCs (both Apple and otherwise), mobile phones, cars, everything.

With respect to PS Audio equipment, we can often help a user to successfully install an update. But there remains those who do everything correctly and still have problems.

It is one of the many mysteries of the world.

That is, the control system itself includes video navigation?

Fortunately I’m in the vast majority for everything, except for DS. It’s the only device in hundreds that I have difficulty with software updates.

Correct. The control system gives me a list of every song on the BR disc and I can choose to play any song, or the whole list, in any order I want. No need for any display to be connected to the player. And it doesn’t truncate any album or song names! Sorry but I find that text truncating on the DMP display to be annoying.

Which is exactly my point. We all will have no problem updating just about everything, but once in a while a product will cause problems.

I have yet to have any difficulty updating any product from any manufacturer, but my time will likely come at some point.

Yep, I understood the point.

This is what I can do. This is a photo of my control system (iPad, but I also have it working on Pronto). It shows George Michael: Symphonica BluRay Audio disc. This is not a photo of a display connected to the player, it is the control system which is able to interrogate the player (via the network) and put all the information and transport control buttons together in a GUI. It works for all BR discs (I have tested it on 160 discs in my collection). If you have the hardware and programming technical chops you can make it work. This same disc will play in my DMP, but it doesn’t have the navigation capability, or even the song names, or album art.

Elk, you are so fortunate > My first DS download experience was 1.2.1 and that worked perfectly and didn’t even require a reboot… My first battle with downloading/installing was Pikes Peak ‘pure, ‘pure 'pain in the butt. Hard boot. I felt like kicking it with a steel toe-capped boot !! Yale was easy but required a few reboots. Torrey’s, annus horribilis a complete living nightmare, well covered by me on here, I had to change the mother board and power supply, etc. DS works perfectly fine now. Problems with both Huron and Redcloud with Redcloud the worst of the two. I always use new cards. I buy 3 new SD cards just in case there is an issue with a specific make of card - so 3 different makes of SD card - all three are formatted. I download to the letter, I always make sure the file case is seen to be unzipped, I finish off and wait until it says on the screen - finished remove card … I never hurry and I am methodical. So what more can I do than that. I am at the mercy of ghosts in the machine. Very - very frustrating.

My machine behaves the same as yours, only worse. They are inhabited by the same ghosts.

What does “If you have the hardware and programming technical chops you can make it work” mean? What is involved getting it to work?

These problems are incredibly frustrating. It certainly appears it is not user error. You are one of the unfortunate few where there is something wrong, but we have absolutely no idea what it is.
