So it has been sitting for a year under your bed? Wow. Even in the instances when a CD wouldn’t play you could just hit eject on the remote and then play. In the software world we call this a workaround. I don’t understand letting an expensive piece of audio gear sit because you are unwilling to use a workaround.
I got to admit, I am surprised at there being people that are opposed to the idea of a disc player playing a disc. I’m just talking about what happens when you put a CD in the tray and press Play.
The drawer closes, and it plays the disc.
This is how an Oppo (for example, which the drive in the DMP is, or most CD players I can remember) works. What’s the matter with that? I am not suggesting taking away any current behavior. You would still be able to close it and do whatever else it is you would like before you actually hear music.
The way my DMP has always worked (ymmv), I have to close the tray, wait for a long while for it to figure out what it is, only THEN I am allowed (indeed required) to press Play. And sometimes neither part of those two steps works properly. I stand there - or go get a cup of coffee - until I’m sure it has read the disc. Sometimes it doesn’t. I press Play - sometimes it doesn’t.
I use an Aurender N10 or Esoteric N-10 Network Player for most of my music playback. If I select an album in my Aurender Conductor application I don’t want the Aurender to start playing the album nor do I want my CD player to start playing a CD that I have loaded. Having said all that, I don’t find your request in any way unreasonable, but it isn’t how I listen to all of my CDs.
We are suggesting placing a disk in the tray, then choose one of two options:
-
Push “Close.” The tray closes, reads the TOC, and the unit waits for the next command, or
-
Push “Play.” The tray closes, reads the TOC, and the disk plays.
Everyone can then use the player in whatever way they prefer.
Exactly. Correct. Yessireebob. Enough already.
I made the decision to disable the auto play on disc insertion. It was actually more trouble to program that than letting it’s normal behavior continue. It was done on purpose.
When I insert a disc it is to play a specific track. The auto behavior is simply annoying to me and others.
That behavior can change but for now unless we’re convinced it’s a better idea to insert and play we’ll keep it that way.
Paul
Me neither. As I said earlier this was a conscious choice on our part.
Paul
Sorry to offend you. A number of posts made clear the writer still did not understand.
Auto play on disc insertion with no override option could easily be annoying.
As one who essentially always listens to an entire CD from the beginning it would be less of a bother for me, but for those who play only a given track or want to start at other than the first track it would be maddening.
Thanks for the clarification, Paul
I see both sides of this drama. I know Paul made the final call, but given how buggy and frustrating this entire experience has been, auto play would just guarantee the disc would play — a huge win, since this was never a guarantee.
Paul,
Are we still on track for releasing the Beta code tomorrow, August 7?
Remember there are widely different degrees of dysfunction with these things. Regrettably mine was a lemon. I didn’t want the constant reminder of the experience, so my work-around was to remove it from view. Where hopefully it won’t need to remain for much longer, and at church on Sunday I will be giving thanks to the PS Audio Gods and singing the praises of the new software.
Fingers crossed.
Yup. Spoke with Barry yesterday (Monday) and he’s good to go. I’ll be reaching out for volunteers on this forum so if you’re interested in testing stay tuned for instructions. Thanks again for your patience.
Count me in Paul
Paul, count me in as a volunteer
I’d also be willing.
Would be pleased to “test”
Yes, I like to…
Ronald
I am anxiously awaiting the download link! Matt has me on the list! Thanks
