DMP Update Code - Post your impressions here

You won’t need to return it to Colorado. Worse case is to call us and get a new firmware sent. Today we’re moving so it might not be perfect. I’d wait until tomorrow.

My comment was meant for Woodburger. I guess I did not reply in the right place. Thank you for your response anyway. Good luck with the move!

So happy to hear that you managed to get Audio back. That was some interesting things that went on. Hopefully it will never give you that kind of scare again.

Paul,

See post 509 for an update, please. I have music again, think I solved a problem for you (and me.). To cut to the chase, it seems in certain situations that the I2S connection must be broken, then reestablished before certain Dmp actions work.

I wish the Dmp was completely reliable. It isn’t.

You’ve built such a family vibe and have accrued so much good will that expressing dissatisfaction is like slamming a friend, it feels disloyal and hurtful, but what’s right is what’s right. The Dmp isn’t. When it works it sounds great, and that saves the day.

My best,

Bob

Objective, clear reports of problems and solutions - such as yours - are exceedingly helpful.

Thanks Bob and yes, if communication is interrupted it has to be reset at times. I’ll certainly pass this along to the programmers and please accept my thanks for this information.

That’s great news that you got it working again. Also thanks for sharing your issue in great detail as it might help others who might develop a similar problem which you experienced.

Glad to help. Thought I had tried EVERYTHING. But no. I am so greatly relieved that I don’t have to send the Dmp back again. Music is my refuge.
A great listen lingers in my spirit for days after.

Ironically, this all happened while I was auditioning a tweek, but one which isn’t connected to any gear. Now I’ll have a few more days to try it out before I send it back. I HEAR the effect, just am not liking it so far.

Thanks, I do realize that but I must have not paid attention when I replied on that one.

FWIW when doing any firmware update to either the DMP or DS always change your DS input to any unused input BEFORE you do the unit update. I always do this and it solves many handshake issues. I always set the DS to optical as a rule but any unused one should work. This stops the DMP and DS from trying to handshake during the process. After the unit being updated is fully up and running and the second reboot done I change the input back to I2S and the handshake works perfectly.

I have always followed the same procedure too.

I will take note of that my friend. Just goes to show.

It just reinforces how many gremlins inhabit these units. So many owners who have issues have their own (often unique ) way of overcoming their problems.
For me, I have not had issues with the upgrade process and have never had to resort to changing the input to an unused one or to have to disconnect cables etc.
It is good that people share their experiences so others can try them.

I’m not sure if it’s gremlins. But definitely my “update psychosis” at work.

I resemble that remark.

I loaded 3.06, very little fanfare. After several weeks here are my total findings.
Now I do not connect the DMP to the internet as I do not care for cover art.

*Whenever I play a SACD, a very soft pop in beginning of disc, like a stylus landing on LP
*Played Hybrid CD-SACD no issue
*Sonic improvements is more from CDs than SACDs
*Track access from keypad is no issue
*Only bad experience is after putting DMP to sleep, when I wake it up, #1 is displayed as track
although there is no disc in the transport. Open and close tray remedies the problem

I downloaded 3.06 onto a new SD card and updated the DMP.
I am satisfied so far, I am sure the next update will even be better.

With the problems I have had in the past with new code and still have re: DMP: the excitement I feel as I watch the blue light flash, wondering how good the new firmware will be, is now more of anxiety and trepidation that the new code will actually load trouble free

I too get the phantom disk every time I close the drawer with no disk left in the machine.

Guess what Dirk! I just put the PS Audio One SACD in the DMP and it came up PCM 24 bit 88khz. So the Force load of 3.06 did NOT correct my issue and has caused me some others. Back to the drawing board. This is getting tiring.
