DMP Update Code - Post your impressions here

Right, in keeping with most of the reports of the new firmware in use.

I buy the SD cards from PS Audio and have never had a problem with the firmware loading.

There may be a sound quality change. . . for the better. I did also make a few tube choices earlier in the day not expecting the card to arrive today. . . so it’s hard to say “exactly” but the sound sure is excellent right now!

Sat down to Listen to SACD. Disc loaded. I pressed play on remote. Got a low “snap” and player then went silent, shows cut 1. Presses play and it plays. Shows screen with title of cut, small track number. I believe that’s screen 1. Got to end of disc but started over, replay not on. —

So what you’re saying is it works, right?

Works somewhat just not without bugs.
First time for the snap. This SACD showed titles. The CD playing now, not.

I wonder if the video “off” control

Is now automatic. I can’t seem to find it onscreen. Went looking for that… returned to the first screen and now titles ARE showing.

Yeah, I think they permanently turned on the pure audio setting.

Video off is now automatic and default. We disabled the choice because it wasn’t useful and it caused nothing but trouble.

Hearing more clarity. On the AP Norah Jones SACD, her voice is more clear than before which was already pretty good. On Pines of Rome, the dynamics are more powerful. A nice release.

Many thanks Paul, Matt and Barry.

Dear Paul, The update code works great. My only issue is that Random Play does not work. Thank you!

Thank you for the update. I’ll make sure that’s on the list.

Was playing a sacd. Switched tracks via remote. Lost audio. Stopped. Open and closed tray. No audio. Timer runs. Turned with front panel on and off… no audio. Rebooted from rear without SD card three times. No audio. Switched to a cd. No audio.

Tried with sd card inserted, rebooted three times. I noticed that the button didn’t flash the way it once did at the first load of 3.06. No audio.

This is ridiculous. It was working earlier.

Rebooted from rear fourth time sd card inserted.
Timer runs. No audio.

I’m losing my mind.

Tried a brand new sd card. Nope. No audio. Got a white screen on one boot, the same thing I sent it back for once… and they found nothing wrong.
Tried unplugging the i2s cable and that fixed the white screen, but no audio continues.

I’ll try to find the old software and try that.

Loaded 2.08. Long load, as in flashing logo, dark screen prior to initializing.
No audio.

Reloaded 3.06. Long (proper) load as above, flashing, etc.
No audio.

I’ve run out of things to look at or try. I2s input is correct. Mute isn’t active. Amps are on. Cd is new. Switched to SACD I was playing earlier in case the new cd had problem as I’ve never heard it.

This unit has been back to PS Audio when screen locked on white. They couldn’t find anything, replaced video screen or driver… but as I wrote above, this just happened and by unplugging the i2s connection it then showed proper screen.

I’m the most impatient guy in the world, now in remission, but this issue has me reverting to an uglier self. —

UPDATE

morning thenext day. I thought a lot about what I experienced last time I sent it in, stuck on a white screen (completely non responsive). They could not find anything wrong. Well, I got the same white screen hang up yesterday, and pulled the I2S connection which restored it. The white screen appears for just a fraction of a second when loading new software… the unit will sit with logo button flashing for a while, black screen, then a burst of white, then “initializing.” Apparently when I sent it in as I had to unplug everything, when it arrived in Boulder it worked.

So I’m laying in bed trying to figure out what I missed. Before bed I had unplugged the I2S and power.

This morn I plugged power only in (without I2S). Put the 3.06 SD card in, powered it up. Then turned it off from logo button once booted. Then plugged in the I2S, turned it and everything else on. AUDIO RETURNED.

So, for those who care, I think a problem may exist in the handshake between the Dmp and dsdac. Wish I could figure out how to insert a picture via iPad Pro, but I cannot. And it’d be a picture of the white screen. But that wasn’t yesterday’s problem, so maybe that would confuse things.

May I ask a stupid question? You didn’t hit the mute button, did you?

Or did you possibly accidentally change the input on your DAC?

Not stupid. But no.

Nope. I can see that that could happen but no.

Try connecting the DMP to the other I2S input on the Directstream and see if that changes anything for you.

Did you try the SPDIF connection? If there is an issue with the I2S this would identify it.

Great idea! Thanks! Tried changing Is2 input to number 2. Tried coax. Timer counts. No audio. —

I hope you can get it operational again without having to return it to Colorado!
