If you never updated the Bridge last month you need to use mControl and do the update.
I’m running bridge version 3.06.17. Does the community think updating it will fix the freezing problem?
I’ve tried doing the update by pressing the button and it’s sitting at 0% again. I’ve never used mControl and would rather avoid that complication if possible.
Also, is there any place on the site that states what the current version # is for the bridge?
Thanks
volume. I’ll try setting it to “sample rate”. you think this may cause the problem?
You can check out this post: 3.6.17 Bridge II update software live
When I upgraded my DSJr mine also got stuck on 0%. I called PSA support and they had me use mControl and it updated without a problem.
Now I don’t know updating the bridge will fix your problem but I would guess PSA would prefer you to be on the current release.
I am on the latest B II firmware. Still have the problem. Very annoying.
It could be triggered by switching from B II to USB or USB to B II during the playback.
Disabling Tidal has kept everything working for a little while so far. I’d just re-subscribed to Tidal a few days ago. Haven’t tried playing local music with Tidal enabled. Have other people been streaming from Tidal when they froze???
I haven’t been playing music long without Tidal, but I’ve been switching tracks and volume constantly trying to reproduce the freeze.
Thanks Michalhifi. I’ll update the bridge like that at some point, if the freeze fix doesn’t address it soon. Attmci, I never use USB.
Updated Bridge using Mconnect. Update went fine but DSJ front panel froze during update showing 98% and volume / front button none responsive.
MConnect confirmed firmware up to date, rebooted to resolve freeze.
@shaft234 You might be on to something. I “think” I was using Tidal or back and forth to play tracks every time my DSJr screen froze. I have been playing a play list from my NAS for the last 12 hours straight breaking in a new BHK pre (lucky me) and there hasn’t been any problems with the freeze issue playing files only. The preamp is a new addition so its not truly a back to back test but may be fruitful. I was going to try long USB playback today to check for the issue but it will have to wait. Maybe tomorrow.
Hmm sounds like a call to PSA is in order. Interesting that your unit froze while you where doing an update. I assume nothing was going on with the DSJr while the update was going on correct?
Nothing going on during update, and B II is now up to date, no further issues experienced yet.
Others have suggested a specific source maybe causing the freeze (Roon / Tidal) but there was no source during the update.
I also use Roon/Tidal. The one time mine froze my unit was idle overnight. The next day Roon couldn’t find my DSJr. That is when I realize it was froze.
Ok, after hours of playing itunes via usb faultlessly to the DSJ, it appears the problem is only occuring (for me) if i am streaming through the bridge - latest version has been in place since Snowmass
I don’t think so. I’m not using tidal or roon. and some of the freezes happened sometime during the night while i was asleep.
@toniexly Dang. I thought we were getting somewhere. My Roon player goes into pause mode during the night when the NAS backs itself up but is still on the correct track and ready to play as soon as I push the play arrow. I’ve now been playing over 24 hours straight with no freeze ups (except for the 2 hours after self backup). The only difference here is adding the preamp but I don’t have a clue how that could change anything. I’ll keep playing through the day and see what happens.
Good morning
I have been reading and learning a lot from all the different topics in the forum; thank you all for taking the time.
I have a DSJ with updated BII and Snowmass and it has frozen up 3-4 times since Snowmass. It has happened during Tidal streamin through the McontrolHD app.
I’m posting to let the guys at PS audio know because keep forgetting to call in and report it.
I’m not complaining because these things happen and I’m sure they will fix it soon. Furthermore after about 2 hours of listening a simple reboot is not a big deal when considering how good Snowmass sounds.
Btw, DSJ>BHKpre>BHK250 in case that information matters.
I think DSJr freezing up during Tidal replay might be a useful clue for PSA even if it isn’t the only scenario (speaking as a software guy).
I’ll continue playing the stereo today when the Bears aren’t busy winning. If it goes a long time without freezing I’ll re-enable Tidal and see what happens. 100% of my listening is via Roon/Bridge.
OK. Still perplexing. I have been playing from my NAS thru Roon continuously for appx. 60 hours now breaking in my BHK pre. Since adding it to my system the DSJr has not froze up once. The DSJr did pull a different IP address during the new gear install so I am convinced it is a network handshaking / buffer overflow / memory leak sort of thing. I have no clue why pulling a new IP address would help but it certainly appears to have. I’m changing over to Tidal radio now to see if I can get it to freeze up using that stream only.
“do you think it might have something to do with the auto-switch of different sources? wondering if the freezing happens when the auto-switch is on”
well…5mins after I close auto-switch and start streaming through bridge II, it freezes…
@toniexly That might be another clue. I know I do have the bridge input selected now and before it was on auto. So far its playing the Tidal radio stream without any hiccups. I’ll report back later either way.
I run the Junior with Auto-Switch enabled. I’ve had Snowmass loaded and running for a few weeks now and never had an issue of freezing or any other problem for that matter. KNOCK ON WOOD.
