DS Jr. running Snowmass freezes

It has to be a local network issue then…lots of places for things to go haywire there and also really hard to track down.

Do you recall DS Jr. RedCloud freeze before? I think this is a firmware issue.

The new firmwares do not communicate well.

Never saw RedCloud freeze… My DSJ is powered off right now because of this mornings freeze.

Never, with any of the Fourteeners. My only negative experience so far with the freezing is with Snowmass. Not too often but maybe every 3 days or so.

Ive had several freeze ups. Usually noticed when the DSJ stops responding to the remote input, that is the PSA remote, the Roon core volume, the Roon remotes on IPad/iPhone/Samsung Tablet. It resolves with a hard reboot from the power switch on the back. The menu select button and the Select dial on the DSJ hardware are also non functional during a freeze up. So I guess I’m experiencing the same as several others have reported.
Trying to consistently reproduce the freeze after several days has just got me scratching my head.
Well…at least a quick reboot fixes it all…???

After a few days of experimenting here I have reduced the display freeze issue to internet streaming only. If I stream from Tidal the DSJr display will freeze up in a couple of hours. If I stream from my local network NAS it doesn’t freeze up at all. I have been able to repeat the test three times now with the same results FWIW. And correct, a quick power reset brings it back to life. Oddities for sure.

Me too. I have crashed twice. This never happened before.

Anyone else?

TD

Now your’e jinxed dude

What is the latest version…I do not recall updating the bridge and the readout tells me there is none to be had.

maybe I did it and forgot…I remember some up date occurred on the MConnect but I figured it was an MConnect update/

Anyone?

Tnx

ANY NEWS from the engineers?

DSJ still freezing like crazy.

Bridge is 3.6.17 for me.

I get the freeze via ethernet input into the bridge - for me thats typically spotify.

USB (itunes) is fine.

I cant play Audirvana+ continuously - it only works for 1 song at a time (not sure thats a bridge problem - I’ve asked Audirvana for some input).

PSA?? Any input? I assume we’re waiting for a bridge or snowmass update.

3 Reasons Why You Should Never Ignore Customer Complaints

  1. Customers Loathe Being Ignored
  2. Potential Customers Are Watching
  3. You Can Turn a Negative Into a Positive

How often does this happen to you guys? I’m obviously not who you want or need to hear from. But I’ll say this. I am a software guy and I will say imho getting software to communicate with other software is some of the most difficult stuff to do - and certainly not the most glorious. There are many variables external to what you have written - and sometimes expectations aren’t met.

No excuse. But I would suggest to continue to report your problems to PSA and if you have work arounds that get you thru it till things settle down - use them.

I hope you get a fix soon.

My workaround’s going to be going back to Redcloud. Changing to USB isn’t an option.
I’m not going to stop using Tidal until a fix is available since we have no idea how long that may take.

If the problem results with the combination of Roon/Tidal only then why is it a PSA only problem to address. Since SM was released both of the other companies have released upgrades and at least in terms of Tidal there have been multiples. Tidal upgrades cause issues with software from multiple streamer companies and they don’t even answer inquiries much less address problems. If the Bridge II in either DS model works with it’s designated software then the problem lies elsewhere to be fixed. The vast majority of Bridge complaints on this forum seem to start with Roon.

it’s hard to say…some days it freezes like crazy…some days it works fine. you almost think it somehow fixes itself. but don’t be fooled. it will strike again when you least expect it…:disappointed:

I would say every other day (every 2 days) on average. Annoying.

No, I am not using Roon/Tidal. I believe it has something to do with the B II upgrades. But unfortunately, we are not experts. Need advice from the manufacturer of the DAC.

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried the 3.6.2 Bridge II update for this freezing issue? It had the art bug for DS Sr users, but Jeremy told me 3.6.2 is compatible with the DSJ.

Its in the Bridge II —> Beta section at the link below. I don’t have the freeze issue, perhaps because I mostly use USB?
