@tedsmith
Couple questions.
What is the impedance of the circuit (opamps) that feed the transformers?
Are there any filters after the transformers?
This info would be helpful in our journey to build / find a better transformer.
Thanks!
Per channel each of the four opamps has a balanced 87 output, hence the transformer is driven by 21.75 Ohms on the positive and another 21.75 on the negative side. Note also that the two primaries of the transformers are in parallel and the outputs are in series.
The board has positions for two 22nF caps from each transformer output to ground, but they aren’t stuffed. No series resistors in the output, so no explicit filtering.
Ted. You are awesome. Thanks!
I cannot believe the transparency of PS Audio. You guys are one of a kind. Thank you!
If you are on the fence about trading in your MKI, this just landed in my inbox:
We are currently offering a promotional trade-in price for your upgrade to the new DirectStream DAC MK2.
For the month of January, the original DirectStream DAC is eligible for a $3,500 trade-in credit, and the DirectStream Junior is eligible for a $3,000 trade-in credit. But beginning February 1st, the best trade-in credit will be $2,400. This January offer is exclusive to current DirectStream owners and will expire soon!
For more information and to place your order, please head here: https://www.psaudio.com/products/directstream-dac-mk2/
Like all products in the DirectStream series, the MK2 utilizes user-upgradeable software based on handwritten FPGA code. But superior to its predecessors, the new DSD MK2 employs twin FPGAs to provide immense processing power, and offers many additional refinements. The result is more natural, detailed and dynamic sound (and the MK1 was already world-class) with a complete lack of digital glare. We’re pretty proud of this device, and I would love to hear your feedback and to answer any questions you might have.
This is your chance to step up to a DirectStream MK2 for the best pricing we will ever offer. Don’t miss out.
All the best,
Scott

Had a feeling the $3,500 trade was going to be short lived. It was an easy decision for me and my mki was shipped back to PSA within days of getting the mkii.
Day 13 of 1-2 week should be shipped estimate, nothing. Just had to pay the CCard bill where the $4,499 bill was on. I will send reply back and see what’s up. Not that I am anxious or anything. But yes I got the great deal which is why I was happy to pay the CC bill on time.
Yup. This month is it for MK1 owners to get the killer trade-up deal.
Paul: is this trade-up good for Canadians owners or just US?
THanks, Dave
It is an incredible deal.
Yeah, I got that too. I was hoping it would last longer, even indefinitely. Sigh. We’re bleeding money here for other stuff and I was hoping to put this off. The other issue is the AirLens is still not available with no date given. I use the Bridge II right now so I would have to get something to play local files (PC with local files is two floors up, so no USB) and stream. That would be another $1k or (much) more. Maybe the DS will have last a while longer …
I hadn’t thought about that. For MKI owners who use the Bridge this does put them into a tough spot. There are some “inexpensive” streamers. But “inexpensive” is in the eye (or wallet) of the beholder.
A tough spot indeed! I hesitate to skip the local files for a while and rely on a laptop via USB to stream not knowing how the AirLens sounds. I sure hope it’s worth the wait, but like stated in another thread, the streamer competition has gotten pretty good. An Aurender or Innuous right now would be wonderful but that’s even more money …
If I was dedicated to waiting for the AirLens your idea of laptop and USB is probably the best alternative. If the AirLens didn’t work out, as you know there’s a myriad of choices.
are you using subs? If so have you tried to flip the phase switch on the subs? Also, I don’t know if there is a phase switch on the MKII? on the MK1 there is one.
Yes the mk 2 does have an absolute phase option that is controllable from the remote. This will not be effective at changing the relationship between the subs an main speakers. That you would have to switch on the subs!
Thanks for the clarification sixpack, I was attempting to suggest APS to try one of the options if applicable, not both at the same.
Same here. I’m at day 14 and no word on a shipping date.
Give them a call or send an emial.
The entire California has been soaked for the past few weeks (feels longer)! This has made the MK2 the best purchase lately because I have become a lazy person listening to it all day long. The only exercise I do is pour another glass of wine, or something stronger. Plus putting a few golf balls in front of my couch (instead of carpet I have a putting green, it’s another great SQ improvement
).
I made a little change here and there. I could hear little changes easily from this sensitive beauty!
