DSD DAC MK1 Issue with USB Port -Possible Failure?

My Innuos Zen MK3 is successfully connected via usb to the DSD Dac. Over the weekend it stopped playing. Cables have been checked, both units rebooted and the wonderful Innuos support team has contacted me and offered their help. I’m starting to think the dac usb port has failed. Has anyone had this issue?

I have, when I received my NIB PSA DSD Mk I in September of 2019. Initial set-up it would not play anything from my Innuos ZENith Mk3 via USB. Most disappointing. I tried various USB cables on hand. No luck. I believe the USB port was defective. All other inputs worked without issue, which does one no good with an Innuos that offers USB out only. Sent it back to PSA for repair/replacement. They would not share the diagnosis (TJ - who has since left PSA) which I found to be odd. Included a new generic USB cable with the repaired unit. The cable went to a friend. I’ve had issues with it since, but that is another story.

I assume you’ve tried, swapping out USB cables, cold boot-ups and reloading the firmware. Try disconnecting everything overnight, perform a factory reset, reload the FW, and then down power. Reconnect everything and try once more, fingers crossed. Otherwise it’s Tech Support IME.

I will try all your suggestions.
I will also use a laptop to connect to the dac and see what happens.

I used a laptop usb connection to the PS DSD MK 1 and although it shows that it is connected no music played. Therefore, I have to assume the dac usb connection is broken, etc.
The next step is to see if what repairs PS Adio folks can perform.
I could try to use the dac I2S connection ( it worked very well in the past ) by using Matrix SPDIF 2 or 3 unit hooked up to the Innuos Zen.

Hopefully Tech Support has a simple solution.

This may be dumb to suggest, but it’s happened to me, so what the hell? After a power reset on PSA DACs, the volume resets to 25 or some other low setting that may be inaudible and you gotta turn it back up!

Similar with the Innuos Zen series, so obvious it is easy to forget to mention it.

Good suggestion. I continually forget that myself, when I turn things back on after power interruptions, of which we have many for no apparent reason.

This has been a design feature in the mk2 to prevent high level blasting someone who uses the DAC without a preamp.

Thank you !
I’ll probably wait until after the holidays.
