I’m also puzzled. Perhaps they’re talking about DoP.
OK. So it uses the Okto DAC8 stereo approach to use good ESS Pro chips with eight channels, normally used for surround sound applications, but here in a stereo application. I run two units with these chips already. One with two chips is for 16-channel home theatre. The other with only one chip for eight channels is being used now to process 4-way electronic crossovers for stereo with Acourate convolute filters loaded in Roon. They are very clean chips. But to get the musicality of the PSA DS MK2, one needs to run HQPlayer filters upstream of the ESS Sabres and then fiddle with them.
Anyway, that is a lot about DACs. Thought this was a streamer thread.
Interesting HDMI output for DSD surround on these things at least. Can feed it into a home theatre system. But a Sony Bluray player will do that too, pulling from a server.
I think the main point from the Huff YT review was that even as merely a streamer, which is what he primarily used it for while sending its digital output to his external T+A dac, was that even as merely a streamer (ignoring its dac capability), it was the quote “bargain of the century” according to him
I have done that with my Oppo. I have since moved to the Panny 9000, which will NOT do that according to them it breaks the encryption. Whatever. Still waiting to hear from anthem on Roon support promised over a year ago…
Ive just pre-ordered one.
pretty excited.
I, and I suspect many others, look forward to hearing your thoughts on it after you receive and run it through its paces. While I found running direct from a Nucleus to my MKI was just as good, if not better than, as with an Auralic Aries 2.1 streamer in the mix (and got rid of the Aries as a result), the Pulsar has me intrigued and wanting to give it a whirl with the MKII.
I am excited for you! I am really looking forward to your review.
Has anyone here tried the Matrix element S streamer? Thoughts compared to other streamer options?
Have not. Thanks for the info though. Curious to see reviews. The digital specs look very similar to the Holo Red. But obviously there is extra cost in the nice screen and front button controls. And if you do not use or want these… Whereas the Red supports HQPlayer NAA and various OS’s. So maybe less to look at, but more ways to use the Red including DDC… and a lower price for the Red.
non starter
says it can’t make french fries
“Not Yet”, so a firmware might fix that.
Before my Canada trip, I ordered a LHY SW-10 switch. I have a LHY SW-8 now and it gives a noticeable improvement. But the SW-10 does much more on paper, and it is within my price range. Hopefully by the time we come back it will be arriving shortly.
Eager to learn of your comparison.
That is super sexy machined aluminium! And I have a thing for networking gear. Gotta keep trying to tell myself though that as long as the endpoint is buffering and/or Ted’s DAC is doing its thing, I do not need it. Repeat to myself, I do not need it. Repeat… go listen to music to reinforce that you are very happy with what you have…
I don’t need it either, but I gave up………
Eh-hem…. N20 up on TMR
Silver but still.
We do not need to come to this forum either yet here we are. I have the SW8 too, can’t stream without it now. Looks like @dchang05 will be the brave soul to demo the SW10 for us.
I just layed fiber between my server cabinet to my main system area, was planning to get the SW10 right after, then, REL is having a May Sale, and I just snatched a Reference Marantz SACD for a very decent price, then paid for a trip to Austria next month, then couple bits of spendy stuff here and there. There goes my $$ for the SW10 haha
Back to topic, you don’t know you need the switch until you tried it /evilgrin.
Well, I have run an Ansuz Powerswitch before, which is an even pricier piece of kit. It is over at the neighbour’s house now though since I upgraded this house network to 10G. Every room has CAT-7. Up to eight jacks per room. Even the bathrooms have two ethernet jacks each. Cannot really take credit for that though. It was the fixation of my predecessor. It is my excuse though not to get a new switch… until the day a 10G audiophile switch comes out!
Holy crap it’s still there, making it harder and harder to resist even in silver!
