The Melco theory is that, slower speeds are better suited for audio, probably their rationale is lower the power lower the noise floor. don’t know if true or not, but will not be that spendy on the Melco switch. SW10’s price is much more palatable. When @dchang05 starts raving about his new sw10 then I’ll know.
We’re leaving for Banff National Park in a couple of days, but I predict the SW-10 will be an improvement over the SW-8; maybe even a giant killer😆
haha, I need you to be objective on this one! No superlatives! Enjoy the Trip!
I have also been looking at the Matrix Element S streamer but not tried it yet. The build quality seems good, it has a nice display, it’s roon ready and has all digital outputs included IIS over HDMI which is the preferred format from PS Audio. I still waiting for my DSD MKII to arrive, hopefully this month, but need to find a good streamer reasonably priced.
Looks a very nice unit. Let’s us know if you get one.
My local dealer which I have ordered the DSD MKII from also have Matrix products, so I suppose I can ask him for testing Element S streamer at home against the MKII. Question is if IIS from the Matrix is superior in SQ compered to USB? Guess I have to test to find out
Does look very interesting. Looks like DDC as well like the Red. But it has a nice little screen on it too.
PLUS ITS SILVER!!!
Yes it ticks all my boxes😀
It comes in Silver @vkennedy61
Really interested in getting some more details on this one…
Not much, but something.
Sadly it’s black in this posting.
I find it curious that, since the Holo Red made its appearance, at least a couple, if not more units - with what seem to be the same digital performance - have cropped up. A display on one, maybe a better power supply on another, but I’m going to guess that maybe they’re all based on the same seemingly new digital processing and interface architectures.
If like the rest of their gear will come in both colors. Reading through the reviews the Wavelight DAC looks like an interesting piece fitting into the same arena as the Mk II and the Aqua DAC’s for only $5500.
Their top of the line though a bit older design is only $7200.
Yes I have. Unfortunately it is not yet Roon Certified. It is a very nice product and has the i2S connection.Roon recognizes it as an AirPlay device and it sounds great. Looking forward to full access after the certification process is completed.
Think I might just pull the trigger on this one and call it a day.
I replaced the LHY SW-8 with the LHY SW-10 network switch about 30 minutes ago. There was no “wow” moment thus far. In fact, the SQ signature of these two units is identical. If anything, I feel the bass of SW-10 seems to be tighter and deeper than SW-8, but the treble/mid is a little “grey” sounding. The unit is brand new so I expect by tomorrow it will sound better.
I remember the SW-8 sounded better after one week in the system, and I expect SW-10 will take similar time. I have been using the same ethernet cables, and I just ordered the fiber optic cable/converter from Amazon. In a few days I will try the SW-10 optic output to see if it is better.
I took out the SOtM ISO-Cat7 Christmas Edition Lan isolator out of the system, because with SW-8/10 switches and good ethernet cables, the isolator does not improve SQ anymore.
Have you tried any esoteric Ethernet cables in your setup? You probably have done so and have made comments but my memory fails me (consistently).
Same question, what ethernet cables are you using. I find the Blue Jeans ethernet cable to be satisfactory, but my run is less than two meters.
I have not tried any Esoteric cable in the system yet.
I am using a Inakustik Reference ethernet between the satellite and the switch, and a 6N silver conductor ethernet (replacing the SOtM Cat7) between the switch and SW-10. The 6N silver SC ethernet turns out to be the best one among the ones I tried (a few lower priced ones). Either @vmax or someone else said the silver conductor is the best one to use for ethernet, and I found that is the case.
This Chinese made 6N ethernet has beaten my SOtM Cat7 cable easily. So I may replace the Inakustik upstream eventually.
By the way, after a couple of hours, the SW-10 is sounding better than earlier. This switch could be a giant killer.
The ethernet between the switch and the streamer is far more important than any other ethernet cable upstreams.
In the past I used a SOtM Cat7 Isolator with a short piece of SOtM Cat7 cable ($600), and as I mentioned above, the 6N silver ethernet sounded a lot better and is 1/2 price. When I moved the Isolator before the SW-8/10, it did not improve the SQ at all. This tells me how good the SW-8/10 switch is.
You will be happy with the SW-8 I am sure
What was your source and brand for the 6N silver ethernet cable?
