DSD MK2 Latest Mountaintop update! - Mount Blue Sky!

My installation from my USB stick went flawlessly as usual. Right out of the gate there were major differences. Instruments, of all genres, I listened to were more identifiable in space, clearer, closer to a live sound. The two voices on Consuelo’s Love Theme, from Chuck Mangione’s Children of Sanchez sound track, have become more beautiful and human like. After just an hour to boot.

I had the same problem with a 64 gig and 128 gig thumb drive. I hunted down an old 16 gig one and it worked like a charm.

Check out the video on the install, it’s much better than the PDF instructions in the zip file.

I had some time last night to audition BlueSky and I was pleasantly surprised how much more detail this version mined out of music I was very familiar with, compared with Mount Massive!

Great Job PS Audio!

Ran with no hiccups, burning in now!!!

When I use the USB input to the DAC, from my Roon Nucleus Plus server streaming Qobuz, I used to set my preamp volume at 38%, now set it to 34%. When I use the I2S input with my PST, the volume setting were as they were before applying the BlueSky upgrade.

Installed Mount Blue Sky yesterday and let it run for the afternoon and after dinner sat down for a listen. I am impressed and happy. I always love to improve the sound of my system and to get the upgrade for free is a real treat.
The upgrade is a nice improvement. Images are sharper, bass is deeper musicians and instruments have better separation. The change is similar to a very sharp pencil in that you get very fine and cleaner lines but in this case the sound never crosses over the too analytical line.
I run u-BAACH software and it responded very positively to the upgrade. The 3 dimensional presentation is even further enhanced. I will keep the system running today and sit down again tonight for another listen.

Yes, I had to decrease my Mcintosh pre’s volume about a similar %. I’m using I2S only from my streamer.

That’s a good description of what I heard too. I stayed in the listening room much longer, and ignored the new Sony OLED we got a day earlier

For those who acquired the earliest versions of the MK2 probably agree that the past two revs have been significant and better sounding. Think back to the original…I remember thinking it’s good but it doesn’t pound my then beloved old DS Junior. Still fancy that old DS Junior. My favorite PS Audio piece of the many I’ve owned in many ways.

Tuladct, thanks for this post. I was having the same problem and changing the IR enable code worked for me also. :+1: :+1:

what is the improvement?

This is a pretty good album musically but certainly not a demo disc for Axpona.

The Nashville Sound

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit

I played it this past Wednesday and it was very enjoyable. However after adding blue sky and playing it again, I got a remastered disc. It was more dynamic and cleaner, with a wider sound-stage and less strident and yet more articulate and realistic. HOME RUN GUYS.

My heartfelt thanks to Paul, TED, Scott, Aaron, James, and the rest of the fantastic crew at PS. Truly one of the shining stars of the High end Audio industry.

Loving my updated MK2-AirLens combo.

Regarding MK2 Blue Sky…first thing I have noticed in my brief listening is the soundstage.

For width I use Roger Waters’ “Too Much Rope” and the panning horse sled and bells. When the horses come through to the right channel they actually sound like they’re past me! Spooky!

I also find that combined vocals are a much more distinct, not as overlayed. I really noticed this (for the first time ever) on Tragically Hips songs where Paul Langlois is augmenting (in his quiet, mumbly way) what Gord is singing. Sweet!

I was the original Beta tester, and there were quite a few issues when MK2 was first released. Mine had to go back to hospital for investigation. It has worked flawlessly since then. However, in terms of SQ improvement, the Massive was the milestone. It made more improvements over my transformer MOD. Massive update has made MK2 a true hi-end DAC in my opinion.

The latest Blue Sky update has further advanced MK2 into a world class DAC, and pairing with a world class pre will land you in the musical nirvana :man_dancing:t2:

Hi everyone! I manage to update the unit without any problems it shows
Firmware 3.2.1
FPGA 239-BLUE SKY
USB 3.02.a91f

However, the unit reboots every time I go into system settings, it doesn’t happen with the other root directories. I can’t choose factory reset either.

Any clues or ideas?

Make sure you unzip your folder first and instal the individual files on your USB stick and it should load.
