Just like you, I had been awaiting a killer deal and also have traded in my DSD Mk1 and am anxiously awaiting my journey to the promised land of the Mk2. I am curious though as to why burn-in would make any honest difference to a FW upgrade as the components themselves have not been altered, just the algorithm. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Per Scott’s email introducing Blue Sky he also mentions the DSD MKII special pricing. So trade in on top of the sale price = one great deal!

What’s the deal?
[DirectStream DAC MK2 – PS Audio]
MSRP $7,999
Price without trade: $5,599
Price with maximum trade: $3,999

Wow!

You are correct. I went back to the site and entered trade-in information (and clicked the trade-in button this time - Doh!) and confirmed a $3,999 price.

So tempting…but I love my modified DS Sr. and I have an unmodified DS Sr. in my office system.

Decisions…

For me, it dd not take long to break in, I just use the DAC to play the movie (Avengers End Game) was all it takes, and Wow, the sound was so powerful and devastating! Everything sounds amazing after that.

Do it Scott, join the club, hear what you are missing, you will thank me for it.

I had peppered this thread with my frustrations in getting this update to work for me and that fact that I couldn’t get my MK 2 to see the USB thumb drive I had inserted.

I had been using a 128GB and 256GB drives to no avail. Finally I tried using the only other one I had left lying around; a 1GB drive and I was able to do the update with no problems.

A big thanks to all the of you that tried to help with this update. I will be labeling and setting aside this 1GB drive for future updates.

Happy listening.

Ted’s latest Blue Sky has produced some pure magic in my system. I am listening many old CDs in my collection for the past few days, and they all sounded better, and a lot better!

People who were thinking of upgrading to MK2, just do it. Even at its full asking price it is a bargain.

I noticed it turns on the wifi even if you had previously had it off. Something else for everyone to check.

Thanks, my WiFi had switched to on. Strangely my I2S input was lifted when I’d recently changed it back to grounded after a tube change in my pre. I guess I’ll leave it lifted for now because I’m loving the sound.

Thanks to you both for mentioning that the WiFi was on, I missed that.

If WiFi should not be enabled to get the best sound, how do I switch it off. The Network submenu is for internal use only.

Hey Ted, is this still using a single FPGA?

Yep, tho I’ve tested using the 2nd FPGA, I don’t need it yet.

Once you’re in the Network menu, click right twice and you’ll be on the page that allows you to turn WiFi Power on or off.

Aaron and Ted,

Thank you, Ted, Aaron, Paul, and the Team. What a privilege to enjoy your talent and hard work.

For some reason, all DSD256 music has a noticeable ‘scratchy/hissing’ background sound accompanying it. All other formats, including DSD64 do not manifest such symptom.

Thank you for the help,
Guy

That works. Thanks brumtech. Can’t hear any difference in the sound, but if I don’t need it might as well be off.
