Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition

I set up my ME to stream via the internal DAC a few hours ago. I’m going to let it run for a couple of days straight. Hoping the bass will tighten up with a little run time.

Impressive that you speak for the entire forum.
But perhaps you didn’t read my original post.
I am not speaking of the ‘pops’ issue at all. Ted has admitted there is an issue there. I don’t have it nor do the even dozen of my engineering team who also own the MK II. But I do not doubt there is some issue there and PS is working it.
As I clearly stated, my issue is specific ONLY to DSD playback using the Eversolo as streamer only. It is a continuous background white noise issue that I have not seen reported here.
This does not occur with at least three other streaming devices, from a $6000 unit to the iFi NEO Stream. Hard to blame this issue entirely on the MK II. I thought raising it here would make sense as seeking useful input. Not feed into this toxic discourse about who to blame.

What’s your source for DSD?

If you are asking me, I use NVME solid state storage connected to my NUC Roon Core. All my DSD is .dsf files purchased from various online sites such as Native DSD and HD Tracks, plus Octave Records SACDs.

I was not addressing pops.
I had no problem with the DMP-A6 with the three non MK2 DACs I tested it with. So I don’t agree your issue is with the A6. Carry on as you will.

Sorry, you you. What app are you using? Do you have the option to try another app?

Also if the Eversolo can act as a UPnP endpoint, have you tried streaming to it from something like Audirivana?

the popping/noise debate is like watching multiple tennis matches being played simultaneously on the same court

some hear it, some don’t, some say all dacs do it, some don’t, some are willing to wait to fix, some aren’t

many keep buying new components as a home remedy but the fix yet materializes reliably

I too have theories and remedies, eg it’s a clock issue going from pcm to dsd and vice versa and not to have a playlist with adjacent pcm and dsd content. Until there is a reliable, tested fix, I will continue my purchase ban. I too have tested many dac/streamer mixes other than PSA in the mix and have not experienced the issue. If I ever did, especially if it repeated, that box would go to the curb. Pops and noise, including directly inaudible noise that according to much research and Paul adversely effects audible frequencies, are offensive. Some have even reported here damage to their speakers. My blood vessels would not like the extreme rise in blood pressure should that ever happen, they would pop and I and the causative agent would go to the curb.

Spending hundreds or thousands, sometimes far more, to self fix instead of the manufacturer resolving a problem that it has long been aware of but not having issued a recall or sales pause is not my thing. Although, it seems that PSA and Ted are actively engaged on the recognized concerns for the past 7 months. I have no answers. Is FPGA that difficult to program? Can every element in the audio system have a role in MkII’s popping and noise? If so, then a PSA fix could go out the window when a new component was added, meaning that there is no true fix for the MkII.

PSA sends out mixed signals about their updates, successive pop/noise fixes lead to recognition that more fixes are needed.

But such inefficiency on parade has been, in accumulated customer spending, costly.

Hi @TheGM:
Out of curiosity, when you are testing streaming DSD from the IFI NEO and the A cappella, are you using I2S to the MK2?
If so would you mind playing through USB instead since that is the MK2 input used by the Eversolo.

@2muchgear Thanks for at least trying to help troubleshoot this issue. That is all I was hoping for from the good people on this forum.
Excellent question, and I purposely have been testing via USB out on ALL streamers, even though I do have I2S on both the Musica Pristina and the iFi Neo. Both support USB.
I bought Eversolo based on Steve’s review and other positive reviews even though I give up I2S if I stick with it.
It is quite nice as I’ve said. Still not convinced it’s better than the iFi or Musica Pristina, but still auditioning it.
I hate to return it without at least trying to resolve this issue, but I only have a week left in which I CAN return it. So, even if it’s an issue with MK II, I can’t wait for a fix.
Thanks!

@vkennedy61 appreciate the suggestion, but I moved completely to Roon several years ago and never looked back. Lifetime subscription and all.
So, even if this worked without Roon in the loop, I wouldn’t change after all the changes and money spent on a proper Roon setup.
Thanks!

And I do think you got what you were looking for? I stated I didn’t think it was the streamer. … it seemed like that was viewed as being combative. I don’t think it was. But - it no matter. There is no anger or combative nature in me. Just trying to help

@timm nope, it wasn’t you who was being contrarian at all. You gave an opinion. As an engineer I question why two out of three streamers work perfectly with MK II and only Eversolo doesn’t. Doesn’t lead me to blame the DAC. I am NOT saying it couldn’t be, but I’m looking for more samples and evidence. Unfortunately, I only have a limited window to evaluate this device.
Thanks for weighing in.

Makes sense …

I’ve been streaming Qobuz through the internal DAC of the ME for 20 hours straight now. It has opened up quite nicely since yesterday. Bass is still a bit ripe but better. It’s livable now. The presentation is quite nice now. A bit more forward than what I’m use to. I’m going to continue letting it burn in. If it continues to improve, it might be a nice alternative to my external DAC. Fingers crossed.

anyone going USB from the Eversolo into a Matrix X-SPDIF 2? (And then I2S from that?)

is that anything?

Mine just arrived. Since I have no experience with internal drives, what do you recommend?

I used one of these with no issues:

I could bring one to your house with a Matrix and we could find out together.

hey there’s a thought. :+1:

I do have a matrix, using it with a raspberry pi in my office system. (but not going i2s, just coax, so it’s not living its fullest life)

I did just order the streamer. Looks like it might be a few weeks tho. Waited a day too long!

I’d try s factor y reset. The Mk2 has grounding tab issues lets static build up. If reset kills white noise on USB then pop lid and bend ground tabs. I have been using factory resets to kill noise issues until I swap output transformers
