This is something like taking the SMPS out of the bacch4mac. Only you still need LPS external. But I bet this is phenomenal.
Another LPS from LHY. This will fit in the slot where the original power supply seats and hence doesnāt require another box outside. Less than $300 but still in production and will be available in mid October according to Alvin. He introduces this in Youtube.
Certainly seeing more choices in the marketplace. Would be interesting to hear comparisons with an external power supply one. Seems like this one would be at a disadvantage right out of the gate.
why would it be at a disadvantage? Size of space it has to conform to?
Putting a power supply in a separate box has been marketed as a good thing to help lower the noise floor. If that still applies here I guess we will find out as comparisons appear here.
Injust donāt think being outside the box is advantage other than more space. The G2 upgrade and numerous lumin do internal that are great. External ones are common due to east to replace wall worts.
Generally, my view that more boxes are a pain. If you can make a internally mounted power supply sound just as good thatās a win.
You need to think outside the box
This is what I was talking about earlier. I do wonder why not an external LPS? I knew Alvin would have one made.
I like an internal LPS if it is well designed. Alvin says the noise level is decreased by 10x with their LPS. See the product information link in their website for the measurements. Hopefully Al will tell use how good the external LPS.
In two weeks Iāll have new heart in my DMP-A6. LHY makes great cheap power supply units. It should be an even better streamer. Alvin was excited. As a guy I worked with many years ago said about an excited customerā¦He started squitrtinā hot gravy all over!!!
This PSU mod alone tickles me to buy the ME haha.
Edit: ALMOST
From the LHY website for the LPS:
Application Node:
- If you plan to use an external hard disk or SSD via USB ports, please ensure that the hard disk is equipped with its own external power supply.
- The above precaution is essential to avoid overloading the LPS-A6 and ensuring stable and safe operation.
Whatās up with that? I do have an external SSD on it for multi ch. audio. Dont really use that much and will not be big lossā¦but what is up with this? Does this thing not supply enough juice?
Reach out to Alvin and ask him. Auralic has the same warning with their units but people have been doing it since the G series was released. Seems a reasonable warning to me based on the size of the external drives Iāve seen people claiming to use.
That is a really nice and tidy solution!
I saw the same thing and was wondering about it. Iām not sure itās a big deal for me because Iāve installed a 4 TB internal SSD and would primarily being using the USB port with a flash drive, but still curious how big of an issue this is.
Looks preferable to me over the external option especially where Iām using it. As the LHY power supplies are from Jays Audio Iām pretty confident like the Hoer-Wege supply for the Auralic G Series they will work as advertised plus even easier to swap out.
This is what the application note actually says:
- If you plan to use more than one external hard disk or SSD via USB ports, please ensure that one of the the SSD/HDD is equipped with its own external power supply.
- The above precaution is essential to avoid overloading the LPS-A6 and ensuring stable and safe operation.
Note it sayās if you plan to use MORE THAN ONE so much ado about nothing. If that was the case you would have to use a hub anyway.
Anyway I ordered one as a tidier solution with cheaper being a bonus as itās not the primary streamer.
Hmm, I wonder if they changed the note because Iām pretty sure I read what Brian posted. But I am also known to miss details. In any case, Iām only replying because I wanted to get post number 1000.
