Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition

They just released one firmware update this week and already have notice online for fixes in the next version so yes they are on the ball and listen to owners and dealers.

It can play ALAC files, no problem. It plays all common file types.

I am comparing the Eversolo DMP-A6 Standard Edition to my Grimm MU1. It is way closer streamer to streamer than I guessed it would be. I have been using my Pink Faun as a Roonserver. At this moment I am restoring todays Roon Backup from the Pink Faun to the Grimm. Perhaps using the Grimm as both Server and Streamer will make a difference. I currently have the BACCH-SP adio out of the system. It’s powered down, I have the Grimm connected to the Gryphon Ethos via AES\EBU and the Eversolo connected to the Ethos via USB. When I was using the BACCH I could not hear any significant difference between the two. Using the Ethos I hear a slight difference between the Grimm and the Eversolo.

Hugh sigh.

Sigh?…of relief (there is a difference) or…concern (there isn’t that much difference). I can’t fathom how, even with your extensive knowledge and experience with digital, you can keep all this streaming s#&t straight. So many variables.

I’d much rather see a comparison of the A6’s analog output (balanced preferably) vs the analog output of another streamer/DAC, to see how the A6 stacks up on its own.

I can’t fathom that Grimm didn’t trash the Eversolo, considering Grimm is one of the best streamers out there with a hefty price.

I am not sure I want to spend big $ on an Aurender N20 anymore; I fear some Chinese streamers could match with it for 1/10 of cost.

Exactly my thought!

But at this time I am interested in testing streamer vs. Streamer. The DAC tests come later. Right now I am interested in removing variables rather than testing additonal things. That is why I removed the BACCH.

I am making a note to report my findings to you when I do test the internal DAC.

As long as a streamer is bit perfect there won’t be an audible difference. The Eversolo streamer is bit perfect. The dac is where the difference lies. The dac on the Eversolo measures objectively up with the best. See test results at ASR.

If you’re not a Roon user then the biggest consideration for you from my point of view is which of these streamers software will compete with what you are using now. If you don’t find that equal or better software then stick with what you have.

There will always be a new kid on the block that might punch above its weight class, and this contender will be bettered by some new kid soon enough. Especially in the relatively new streaming arena. A signal is still a signal, and any component that does the least harm to it will prevail. The options are endless but those companies that focus on the long term fundamentals are what I admire, like Aurender, for example.
Attention to bigger and better power supply’s, ground schemes, parts tolerances, clock accuracies, etc., will win the day, and especially if they will keep there unit ā€œcurrentā€ with upgrades ( like Paul with his new supply in his Auralic). It’s what’s under the hood that counts and the hope that will be competitive well into the future that gives me some peace of mind.

That’s not true as the software employed leaves it’s own sonic signature.

If bit perfect was the only consideration the market for greater than $1000 streamers would be non-existent. Bits are bits is not a theory I agree with. I am fine that people believe that.

Sadly, what I am hearing with this Eversolo tends to support that theory. Hence my pain.

EverSolo are not a new kid on the block, it is a brand from Zidoo who started up in 2014. They are one of the few who have a large software team, which takes time and money to establish.

Looking forward to any future insights you might be able to provide. Yours is the first real insights I’ve heard on how the Eversolo compares with real good alternatives.

For what it’s worth, Steve Huff was favorably impressed with the Eversolo using it as a streamer into his T+A DAC 200. Then when he heard the Lumin U2 (not the mini version) he claims it significantly outperformed the Eversolo, so much so that he purchased the Lumin. Claims it has much better texture, decay, detail, etc. He also mentioned that he found the Grimm and Innuos Statement slightly better than the Lumin U2 at significantly higher prices, which he couldn’t justify for their performance difference. Of course that’s a judgement call, and some will happily pay multiples of the price to gain that last increment in performance.

His review has moved me away from Aurender N20 towards Lumin U2 more, so much so that I purchased a LHY SW-10 switch with a fiber optic output. I gave myself little alternative now.

I am just trying to convince my wife that I need another ā€œupgradeā€ for the system, and my birthday is coming up

Can you test, compare the Eversolo DMP-A6 streamer to the Sonore UltraRendu? Ultra costs $999, another $189 for a linear power supply. (That 899 keeps looking better and better) If you need an UltraRendu for the test, I will send you one.

This is good news for those of us that haven’t purchased any streamer. :grinning:thanks for the input Al.

The Eversolo DMP-A6 is shocking in its performance. It’s like when you clap eyes and marvel at a paper doll exquisitely dressed in it’s haute couture. It’s nice and compact too so when the wind shifts to the next du jour you just place it in the drawer with all the cables you wonder why you thought were life changing. I love it because it kicks tuchus and you can put stickers all over it and not worry about adhesive residue!
