Fave listening chair?

2chan4ever said “Herman Miller Eames lounge chair. There is no other. going to run you multiple thousands of Dollar though. If you want the ultimate it stops here for most folks.”

Not me. I returned mine cause it’s too low for my speakers. Was comfortable & I love the look, but just too low.

Jim Smith suggests that in his book, “Get Better Sound.”

I’m going to be shopping, or at least casually looking, in the next year or so. Right now I use an IKEA leather Poang that I’ve had for 10 or 12 years, but as I get older (65, and currently rehabbing both knees), it’s sometimes hard to get out of. I also wouldn’t mind something with a sitting position that’s a little more upright and that easily supports reading, which I do a lot while listening. We had a Stressless in the house for a few weeks as my wife recovered from rotator cuff surgery, but I didn’t like it. When in the upright position, its back forced my shoulders into a hunched-forward posture. My brother, the rich guy with the BHK electronics and Maggie 20.7s, has an Eames Lounge Chair and ottoman, and I find its seating posture not that different from my Poang, except it’s rigid, with no bounce or movement, and equally hard for me to get out of. That Klaussner one posted by akubacki may be a reasonable alternative. I see they’re sold at several of our local furniture stores. We also have a high-end contemporary furniture store in our part of town that has some beautiful and comfortable recliners, but my god, they’re expensive.

You might try a powered recliner. You can adjust it about however you like and it will also help you stand up if you want it to. They are not that expensive either.

These are expensive but they’re quite phenominal and well worth the cost.

They’re called “The Perfect Chair” and they really aid you getting up through really clever mechanics. You can get them powered as well. Worth a look.

I’m sure there are some knock off designs out there at a lower price.

We have a huge sofa that fits 5 slobbing out, but the seat backs are on big hinges and with a small footstool (heavy and does not move) gives a very comfortable upright listening position.

I bought my 93 year old Father in-law a recliner that basically leans way forward and dumps you out of it. I don’t need it yet but it is in my future I fear.

LOL not when it is occupied!!

We have three of these, two hardly ever get used, but this one is in our den / listening room. Can’t use it for listening, but it’s the most popular reading chair. Unbelievably comfortable, as the condition indicates. Reckon they are about 15 years old.

I’ve had a Herman Miller Aeron in my office since 2004. Think it’s doubled in price since then. Best work chair ever.

Nothing wrong with a good flotation device.

You may have seen where Paul jacked up the rear legs of the Poang chairs in the old music room before the move to the new location. You may get new life out and better ergonomics from your chair by doing the same?

I hadn’t seen that, so thanks for mentioning it. I’m sitting in the chair now, with it propped up in the rear by two layers of 3/4 ply. It works so well I may cobble together some more or less permanent “shoes” to fit it.

Been through this thread looking for a new listening perch. Thanks for posting! A lot of great options out there. This is what I ended up with for serious listening. I wasn’t quite sure about how it would work out, but thankfully it’s proven to be quite comfortable even for extended sessions.

Interesting design…I like it.

Enjoy.

After months of looking and procrastinating, my better half and I settled on this:

Five-piece Leather, Powered Reclining Sectional

We re-arranged it into an “L” shape with just one, right-armed recliner set against the corner-wedge piece to my right when facing the speakers/flat screen (my room/system does 7.1/2.1 HT/stereo double-duty).

You can’t tell from the picture but two key things about the set are that: 1.) the back does not come up past my ears when sitting up right (and I can make sure I recline in a way that is still the case for stereo listening); and 2.) the armed and “bench” pieces recline down and way out nicely with independently adjustable head rests making for very comfy movie watching.
