The whole thing was demonstrated with Raidhos TD3.8 speakers These also use feet with steel balls.
In my room, FR-30 pair is more foregiven than my previous Monte Cristo. With 1” toe-in, I like it, with 3” toe-in I like it too. Straight point to the ear is sounding okay, but not to my taste. When the pair is six feet from the wall, they sound nice, but so was five feet.
I just move to wherever that my wife deem to be the correct location, and it has less to do with the sound. She would not mind I secretly move a little by litter later.
That’s a whole lot of awesome
And assuming she would not browse anything audio related online, especially not an audio forum
Where do you measure from, front or back face? Given the depth of the FR series it makes a big difference!
This is under casual listening and everything sounds decent. I like 7’ measured from the front face to the front wall the best. But I probably have to settle with 6’ because I do not have the final say.
Of course, locations make a difference.
I couldn’t help it and pulled my speakers a little further away from the back wall today. The front is now one meter away from the wall and the depth of the stage is now better defined. The cables and SR fuses place the soundstage far behind my speakers. Maybe it needs more air. With the AM Ultimate, the soundstage moved in front of the speakers. Maybe the SR fuses didn’t work so well with Vmax because its speakers are close to the back wall.
6-7 feet is a decent distance from the back. Maybe you’re sitting too far away. Your room is quite large. I have my speakers on the long side of the room and the listening distance is only about 2.5 meters. Al seems to be sitting similarly close and he likes it. I have to find the best compromise between distance from the wall and listening distance. More distance from the wall like yours and I have headphones. I also plan to place it differently in the room to see if I like it better. The room I have is 7.5 × 3.9 meters.
In my room when FR-30 is way in front, the entire soundstage is behind the speakers. Some music the stage is behind the house wall! However, I can only move them forward when my wife is not at home, unfortunately
Does the position of the soundstage change with the M2? On my AM Ultimate the soundstage is further forward.
M-2 is in PST now, and I tweaked with toe-in again at the same time. Therefore I cannot give any judgement yet, but I don’t think the soundstage is moving forward in any case. The system is down now so I’ll find out tomorrow.
Then the matter of the feet for your speakers is resolved. You need roles .
The general rule of thumb is to divide the room into thirds, place the speakers 1/3 from the front wall to the front baffle and place your chair 1/3 from the wall behind you.
I have a room that is open behind me and I assume most people dont have dedicated box shaped rooms so those rules are just guidelines.
The FedEx just delivered the replacement for both mid and lower covers for the left speaker, and they worked this time. Now the speakers look much better.
I know Paul said these stiff covers are cosmetic, but I heard tighter and even bass than before. They are doing something more than the look, I believe.
After 10 days, I hugely appreciate how great the FR30 sounds. These four ABR radiators on each speaker control the low bass incredibly well when the volume is way up. The weight of the bass in a deep room is something I aways enjoy. Too bad I do not get the chance to turn up the volume often. With my old pair of speakers at this high volume, I heard significant bass distortion. Not with FR30.
I do not think the break-in is done yet since everyday FR30 sounded better than the day before.
they are definitely going to keep getting better - enjoy !!!
You could also consider Stack Audio Auva speaker isolators. They gain a lot of traction lately, even against the Gaia’s. I think the Gaia’s look nicer though.
There’s also a review bij Alan Sircom of Hifi+

I lost my audiophile card with this tweak last May, but really like the sound of the FR20’s with this floor mat that I have not added any feet just yet.
My Acoustic Zen’s were the same way. They sounded better sitting on a towel than on any kind of feet or isolation.
