I have experienced only 2 evenings with it, it means less than 6 hours in total. But 6 minutes since I introduced it into my life, well was enough to attest such a great improvement in SQ! You were right, even more than Sakra level!
The feeling is that I still need to acclimate myself to this new sound, which is the one I well know from my system and I usually like (no coloration or artificial effects) but so clean, vivid and transparent that each song is a new adventure!
I’m really enjoying music, that is our second aim in this hobby, after looking for the next upgrade!
It took about three weeks for me to not have a jaw dropping reaction to it’s charms. Now I am used to it and that makes me a tiny bit sad. Enjoy the joyride!
I haven’t experienced a Sakra V17 break-in, and I’m not sure if it’s even a thing. However, the PowerZone is cool because the system keeps progressing.
That’s exactly what happens to any upgrade/update that I have ever implemented into my system over the years. The audio high fades and it’s time to find another. Ahh…the joy of audio addiction!
I keep the Puritan PSM-156 plugged into the wall (even though there are no other components connected to it) only because it is cleaning the dedicated circuit. In fact I measured the EMI value with a noise sniffer, comparing w vs w/o and the result is not subtle.
Odd thing, if I switch off or if I even unplug the IEC plug of the STEALTH power cord from the PST (while the other end is plugged into the PZ), the EMI value increases about 50%. Antenna effect? Measurements made plugging the noise sniffer both into a spare wall socket (same dedicated circuit) and into a spare PZ socket.
EMI sniffer could bring an OCD guy like me to audio nervosa mood, back to music!
Yesterday evening I noticed a change in sound, for the worst. It seemed music on steroid, excess in bass and a general lack in realism. Just like the system sounded louder and more “hi-fi like”, unlike the other days when I perceived a more organic and natural sound. I’m afraid the burning in process needs more time.
Even when I am on vacation I cannot resist to respond. If you’re living in the US, I’ll say the souls of dead are tricking your senses before Halloween But you’re not!
Maybe you’re telling weepeewop to keep his Puritan. He can power his toothbrush and improve the sound at the same time. That’s neat!
I expect to hear nothing but great sound when I come back in 9 days; all the kinks should be smoothed out by then. PZ is continuing break-in at my room. Here’s a great view of beautiful west side of Oahu:
According to Paul Hafner about a month. Mine has taken 14 days to where it’s at now which is not full on addiction mode yet. But it definitely doesn’t suck.
So I have a Puritan conditioner that I don’t use like a conditioner but I keep plugged into the wall and a PZ, which is not a conditioner, that I use like a conditioner.
This is the reason why normal people look at this hobby like stuff for spoiled children. Hard to disagree!
All this talk of the ups and downs of the burn-in needed for the PZ to be fully convincing makes me think that Gryphon should do the burning in before they ship them. No?
Every electronic audio device needs burning in. I think the cost & logistics of doing a 200+ hr factory burn in would be prohibitive. I don’t think anyone who has been fortunate enough to buy a PZ regrets it.
