Tony, I can assure you that the PZ is truly something different and I encourage you to find a way to try it (before you decide).
What I’m reporting about its ups and downs might create a sense of “diffidence” and this could be cause a disservice to members like you, that are curious to understand what it can bring on the table.
Just to be clear:
the general improvement is real and one of the most significant I got in my system
bass are so impressive that you can forget subs
it brings life to music, presence and a vibrant emotion
It’s not one of those tweaks that make a difference once added but you soon find annoying and after a few weeks you remove
The only odd thing is that I’m realizing that time is needed until you can become more familiar with such a big leap. And once you hear what a wonderful sound it can give you one day, you are sad if the day after something happens lowering that kind of WOW effect.
Despite this, even on “bad” days it allows you to enjoy an experience that is superior to what you were used to before you put it in your system. To be clear, it is far superior to other competitors, but its real competitor is the PZ itself, for how it evolves and improves every day, albeit in an alternating way.
Long story short: don’t buy it but certainly try to test it. Worth the effort, believe me.
Do you remember the Bellavista Gran Cru? PZ is a glass of that wine, you just need to taste it at the right temperature!
Thanks Luca. I have no doubt it’s good, but it’s all relative in this hobby, isn’t it? For example…
I already have this.
Hmm, yes I already have this too.
So with the PZ I’d be getting… more of these? Yes, I guess it would be great to get more of something I already have. I’d love to have the chance to hear it.
My specific PZ install was done intentionally with a most modest Shunyata 20 amp C19 power cord to determine just how much of an improvement the PZ can provide. I‘ll just say this, I am more than slightly pleased with an inexpensive PC. Certainly more can be gained by mating it with a better power cord. But, on its own it bests any power cord available in the here and now.
Making assumptions as to the merits of a PZ compared to other devices without actually hearing it in one’s system is less than useful. Just my opinion.
I remember watching a video that Mikey Fremer posted of his tour of the REGA factory. In the video they showed that each and every electronic device they sell gets powered up and burned in for xxx hours. I wish every higher end audio company did that.
Note, I am speaking only for myself, no one else. This is just my opinion. Feel free to have your own incorrect one.
The one benefit of us burning in equipment ourselves, with me in particular with the MU2, is that I was able to hear for myself the difference between a burned in MU2 and a non-burned in MU2, and my own confirmation that burn in is real.
When I heard THAT much of a difference, I hoped it was due to burn in and not the different fuses.
There are less than 10 owners here and they were all getting high on this PZ drug. The symptom was everyone couldn’t stop talking about the same thing over and over again for the last 1000 posts, and it does not appear to be ending anytime soon.
This drug is highly contagious, and PSA should shut this thread down!
I remember a HiFi dealer telling me years ago that he had a client who purchased a system with some über expensive speakers (>$100k) that came with beautiful wood panelling. I can’t recall which brand - maybe Sonus Faber? Anyway, they had a small silver panel at the front. He returned for an inspection post installation of the system and apparently the client used a black marker pen to colour in the silver panel. He couldn’t believe it. The client was, what we refer to in Australia as a “cashed up bogan”. @Gareth will known what that means
