Bob James. 83 yrs young. His three backing musicians probably don’t total his age. Great stuff.
How I got to be so lucky, I have no idea.
Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew’s Reamin in Light tour opener a couple of Thursday’s ago at The Ogden:
reminds me of George Thorogood’s: Get a Haircut (and get a real job).
And now I party all night , I sleep all day."
hey that’s you. have fun, kick it and pass the gummies.
That is the show I was at, Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew at First Avenue. It was nice.
John Papa Gros… Like a trip to New Orleans without the flight hastles. Good traditional New Orleans funk? Creole?.. whatever it is it sounds great and keeps your toes tapping
"Grow"s music is like gumbo. A little of this, a pinch of this, and some of dat!
Hi Joyce!
So watching Jon Cleary playing solo is a lesson in New Orleans history and all genres that eminated form NOLA. Check him out if he swings through your town.
Bill Frisell at the Ark in Ann Arbor, MI. This is actually from a month ago, I wasn’t real happy with the photo, so I didn’t post right after. But today is Bill’s birthday, he’s 72, so I felt why not!
First revival of this show since its premiere in 2015, incredible dance, music, design, lighting, visuals. Full 2-hour score by Max Richter, for full orchestra. percussion and synthesiser, at the back of the pit played by the pianist. The principal female role is for an older ballerina, Allesandra Ferri in the original production (aged 52), today Marienela Nunez (aged 41).
That’s a joint I’d like to hit.
Its reputation is deserved. I’ve been going since the early 80s and simply love the place. With the new configuration (and knowing the right people) these photos are from my usual spot at the sound desk. Only one regular can block my view and he was an NBA center
We must come over for a show sometime.
You should!
Wow, full London envy again!
This was a new ballet and score in 2015, the principal role was created for Allesandra Ferri, one of the world’s leading dancers ‘in her time’. She studied at La Scala (born in Milan) then Royal Ballet School and was the youngest ever principal aged 19. Baryshnikov got her to join ABT, she then came back to London, retired, then un-retired. When we saw her dance this in 2015 she was aged 52.
We saw Marianela Nunez in the role this time, a Saturday matinee, a young 41. In the evening Ferri danced the role, aged 59. It’s a big, physical role. She was celebrating 40 years since being appointed as a principal dancer, about 25 years longer than a good career, probably never happened anywhere ever.
Although this was the first revival, less than 20 performances in total, it is likely to become standard repertoire, which happens rarely. It may then get on the international stage, along with this magnificent music.
