How important are footers?

I just received my 3 sets of footers from Aliexpress and they sound nice under DSD, PST and Aries G2.1 streamer. I am pleasantly impressed.

I like AUVA EQ, but they are not necessarily better than others; just sounded a bit different. When my new streamer is here I will try AUVA, Orea, XSSH, and some other footers to find the right fit (which means to my liking because they are all doing something😆).

The footers for speakers are way more effective than for equipment, and I found AUVA 70/100 are better than anything else that I have tried.

I have 1 large brass and 2 stainless steel large cones under my Hales speakers going into carpet. My preamp and amp are in my rack without any cones or footers. I don’t know if I should use anything under them. The footers under my dac,
transport and streamer sound really nice.

I replaced Orea indigo (3) under BHK pre with AUVA EQ (4) and I like it better than under DS MK2. The SQ is better than Orea when used here, and the midrange is especially sweet and focused.

I am still waiting for Grimm MU2 and that is where I plan to use AUVA EQ. It cleared the custom as far as I know. I hope I will get it by next week so I can show it to my daughter and son-in-law who will visit next weekend, even though none of them are interested in becoming an audiophile. I think this is wise.

A black box that costs a thousand dollars a pound and can’t do anything by itself should be a big hit.

AUVA EQ is more reasonably priced, and they are similar to the prices of Oreas. But their 70 and 100 series for speakers are indeed big hits, and are worth it. You better order them soon before they raise the price!

Today, footers are the very last thing on my mind. Way after knitting needles.

I agree.
To answer the original question, footers can influence sound, but they are the very last thing to spend money on.

Good to know, thanks for the feedback.

i upgraded footers from Orea to AVRoomService AVPs - a great improvement. i was shocked how much better. They have gotten a bit expensive (well maybe not for this crowd… Al…) but have 30 day trial. Very much worth trying.

Has anyone tried black diamond raceing cones? They were big back in the 80’s. I might need to dig mine out of a box full of old footers, and give them another try. They’re CHEAP!

I still have a few sets of #3 and #4 cones plus #4 pucks (the large ones I think they are called pucks). Got them in the mid-90s didn’t realize they were available before then. They do add a little body to the sound but I mainly use Mapleshade Triplepoints or ebony footers.

I’m still waiting on the footers from the HIFI-DIY Store which arrived at a local distributor 9 days ago but they seem to be having a problem finding where I live and “responsive” doesn’t seem to apply to the 4 e-mails and 1 telephone call I’ve placed to the courier service giving them detailed instructions on how to get to me.

I remember making some “roller block” footers, but heavier equipment would just roll right off. My last purchase was for some “Valid points” from Walker Audio. Lloyd Walker was a good guy and somewhat of an audio genius.

Heeeeey…? Anyone try these Moongels? Beekhuyzen was content.

These are cheap as dirt compared to all those fancy things you people are discussing.
What if they’re… Better?

Cones are not acoustic diodes, I wonder why even the current CEO of Wilson talked of such things. I mean they might negligibly be in that they don’t have so much “back-wave” possibly but the main effect of transmission (regarding mass) is well understood, yes? How about not transmitting the resonance away? Let it… bounce? The Moongel would also be…

converting it to heat where it touches.
Anyone know what’s the ultimatum in materials like this? Could NASA help?

A friend brought 3 of his Stack AUVA footers for me to try. I replaced the VooDoo Isopods under my line stage and the Stacks did seem to produce a clearer sound. Returning the VDs seemed to impart a bit of smear that I was never aware of before. Nice.
I just ordered 3 ($158.)

Dude flips his lid over these footers. Says they’re way better than the Stack Audio footers.

It is safe to say these footers will never be allowed for my speakers. My wife may allow them to be placed under the flowerpots. outdoor only!

Footers very much improved the sound of my system being placed under DSD, PST, Streamer, Tuner and Headphone amp. I am using cheap footers from Aliexpress and they work like magic. I suppose footer improvement is system dependent. YMMV. I am extremely impressed and excited.
