I had one of their first series and I would agree about the build quality. It was an engineering jewel.
Sounded good too.
I’m still totally loving my Jays CDT 2 mk 3 can’t imagine the next step up.
Ditto. But I really want to hear the CDT3!
There is a difference though the CDT2 Mk3 is no slouch.
I own a PST, I have never yet played an SACD on it. Oh well. My Ethos just amazes me with what it does with ones and zeroes. Long live spinning discs!!!
The dac in the Ethos seems swell also!
Anyone out there play with the upsampling option (small switch on the back of the unit) on the CDT3 Mk3?
I tried it for a couple of CD’s and didn’t care for it personally but you might like it.
Thnx, I flipped the switch to upsampling some time ago and forgot about I had done that . . . will flip it back during next session and see what happens.
I also tried the upsampling option on my CDT2-Mk3 and prefer the native non-upsampled playback.
I finally got around to the comparison; so far I prefer listening without upsampling on the CDT3-Mk3.
Has anyone with the Jay’s Audio CDT3-Mk3 tried using the USB shoring plug tweek on the transport as well as the DS?
Thanks,
Nick
I just installed the I2S module in my Metrum Pavane dac, and then the good folks at Metrum and Jay’s Audio worked together to make a pin diagram that Bluejeans Cable used to build a custom cable (Belden Cat6a wire and some good looking RJ45 jacks), as the pin usage for Metrum and Jay’s = different. It all worked, and I2S sounds better in my system than AES (and AES was better than SPDIF). The custom Bluejeans is well made and was only $35, but I am wondering what a ‘high end’ version of this cable would sound like - any thoughts or specific suggestions would be appreciated. Bluejeans is willing to build and test another cable if I supply the wire, but I have no clue what that wire would be . . . again, any ideas would be appreciated.
No idea on the shorting plugs for the USB Nick - which kind of connection are you using?
I use the l2S and wonder if shorting the usb would be of benefit.
Gotcha. Any thoughts about the wire used for I2S?
I had been using the Firebird 48. Sold it for the Dragon 48. Used it briefly until finally settling on the Tubulus Concentus. I found the Tubulus to be more natural sounding than the previous two cables with just as much detail.
I think you made that name up. It’s a silly name.
don’t google it if you’re a hypochondriac or you’ll think you already are infected with it
Thnx Nick. I googled it Al, real name ; ) and seems to be less costly than the AQ.
