If I ever get the nerve up to try another HDMI cable this one would be the one. . . expensive though. . .I need 1 M.
I’m going to e-mail them and see if they can customize the pin usage. 50 cm = 1.64 feet (which I might get away with) for 649 euros. The materials and build certainly look right : )
I might get myself to part with that kind of money for a top quality I2S cable. Certainly worth it if it equals a Dragon which is just silly expensive to me. I said might …
I did notice in the notes for the Tubulus that you need to deduct 0.25 M to find the maximum distance between connectors. For example, for a 0.5 M cable the connectors can be a maximum of 0.25 M (9.84”) apart. Must be a fairly stiff cable. My PST is on a shelf above my DS in an older SolidSteel rack and the connectors are about 9” apart so a 0.5 M cable would just reach.
Thnx pmotz. Tubulus has been great to deal with, and told me they do custom pin-outs, and one still has the 30 day moneyback guarantee if they don’t like the cable, so I am going to try it.
Question: I’m getting a rare click/pop during CD playback, it sounds a lot like a click/pop when one plays vinyl. I know it’s not on the recording because when I rewind the CD and play the passage a second time it’s not there - anyone ever had this problem?
Went back to AES, no clicks and pops so long as I2S is not also connected, am isolating the problem, continuing to troubleshoot, with help from Metrum (using Metrum Pavane with the Jay’s CDT3 Mk3).
Same experience here. What DAC are you using? (Was a pontus II for me.)
Metrum Pavane Level 2 with DAC3 modules. Goodness those DAC3 modules are good; when I installed them I also replaced the USB module with the I2S module. But the Jay’s CDT3 Mk3 transport pin-out is different from the Metrum, so Jay’s and Metrum got together to make a pin diagram and I had a custom I2S/RJ45 cable made (all detailed above); sounded great, but the click/pop sounds occurred anytime the I2S cable was installed. Metrum suggested I replace the I2S with the USB input and try that, to trouble shoot the problem and see if it was a board on my DAC (I have NEVER used the USB input, so will go back and do that). Do you have this problem with only I2S? Or have you heard the click/pop with USB? Are you also using the Jay’s CDT3 Mk3?
No noises at all using the I2S to either Holo Audio or PS Audio DAC.
Good to know, thanks : )
Hello PSAudio Community members!
Having been a lurker for sometime, and learning a lot in general, I now have a specific question.
Since my Pro-Ject cd box rs2 t can’t be repaired, nor replaced (dang-it!), I’m looking at replacement transports. Naturally, Jay’s and PSAudio are on my list. For those of you who own the CDT2-MK3, what are your impressions 1+ years on?
Thanks!
David
If you don’t intend to play back SACD then the Jay’s CDT2-Mk3 is the way to go IME. What DAC are you intending to use with it?
Sorry to hear that your another victim of Pro-Ject’s abysmal quality control but you will find the build of the Jays’ transport to be of another level. I’ve owned both the CDT2 MK3 and the CDT3 Mk3 for over 18 months. One things about the CDT2 Mk3 is that there is a service tech in Texas and the transport mechanisms themselves are user replaceable. Reach out to Todd at Tek Audio and have a chat.
Reached out to Todd @ Tek Audio recently. Silence, so something may be up with him, vacation or…
I’m running a Musetec Audio ES9038 Pro x2 DAC sabre chip DAC. I also have Audio Research amp/pre and ProAc speakers. They are great together. I have mostly red book cds, so SACD/DSD is not a priority. Many people say the CDT2-Mk3 is a terrific value. What’s not to like about terrific values?
My Pro-Ject transport reminded me of a Fiat I once owned. Always something breaking down.
Thanks for the recommendation.
It does seem to be a hit or complete miss product much like their turntables.
I saw him respond to an owner on Audiogon not to long ago but I personally haven’t been in contact with him for a while. He was an active member here for a while at the beginning of the Mk I modding craze.
I bought aJay’s CDT2 MK2 in March of 2019. Loved it. The music was so good and the build quality was extraordinary. Sliding the CD access door back always made me think, “This is what owning a Bentley must feel like”. In 2021 I thought I needed more of the Jay’s goodness, so I purchased the Jay’s upgrade package to upgrade it to a CDT2 MK3. Again, the Jay’s sound quality was captivating. I enjoyed many flawless hours of blissful music produced by my little tank. You will not be disappointed.
Now for the sleazy sales pitch: With many of my favorite artists passing away lately, I’ve come to the realization that life is indeed short. I’ve been lusting after the Jay’s CDT3 MK3 for a while, and I decided now is the time for me to take the plunge. My new CDT3 MK3 is burning in as I write this. This means I now have a CDT2 MK3 that I will be selling in about a week. If you’re interested, feel free to get in touch. I’m intending to advertise it here, in the PS Audio sales forum section, before I list it elsewhere.
