Jay's Audio THE Flagship CDT3-MK3

The CDT2 Mk3 is indeed a fine player. Does yours include the Qstab CD weight? Also, I am curius as to your impressions of the CDT3 compared to the CDT2.

For those unfamiliar:

Hi Toolbox-
I’m all ears. Tell me more.
Regards,
David

Am I the only one who is creeped out from the materials it’s made from?
ETA-Or maybe not. What is bone-like-material?

This might be considered a peanut gallery question, but has anyone made a direct comparison of the PST and Jay’s Mk3? I thought there were some comparisons done a while back on this forum. Since a used PST can be had for similar dollars or less, a case could be made for it if it sounds as good, or better, and gives you SACD playback.

Not so sure about that. Any examples you care to share. IME the PST didn’t last (literally), the Jays is here to stay, no SACDs in my future either.

Lonson listed one a few weeks ago at $3,100. Don’t know what it sold for. You commented on that thread.
I don’t understand what you meant by “the PST didn’t last”. Mine has worked flawlessly to this day.

W’s PST had fatal errors. The one I sold last week I sold for 3100, I had bought it for 3200 here six weeks or so prior. (It was one I bought for temporary use, still have my OG, love it, no need for another model transport, it’s da bomb for me.)

Mine did not survive the 72 hour burn in. Took out my DAC as well.
AFAIK Lonson’s was the only one in recent memory at that price used. New the Jays CDT2 Mk3 is $2498 all in.

Actually I’ve seen a few at 3000 to 3300. They went fast. (And they were black!)

I have not heard a Jay’s but if one has a DSD the combo of the PST and DSD can create amazing sound, and especially if you have SACD or like SACD it’s a great combo. That galvanic isolation at the output is a plus. I myself really like SACD. (What happened to W’s I have only heard that once, most owners are very happy; the DMP was another story).

The only advantage for the PST is the capability of SACD playback, which in my experience is superior to the cd layer of the disc. But if you only do cd’s, Jay’s has the advantage of lower cost as I believe some time ago our buddy Al tried both units and I don’t remember him saying there is a clear cut winner as far as sound quality is concern. BTW, I’m still using my PST. It’s been awhile and so far not a single problem with it. Many still say the SQ playing SACD’s on the PST still surpass any high rez files on a streamer.

I think the galvanic isolation is an advantage. It certainly leads to a changed sound in tandem with the DSD and choosing to lift the ground there. I don’t think that the Jay’s has that feature.

Without de-railing the thread, MBL has never produced an SACD transport, correct?

DCS has a nice SACD transport, the Vivaldi Transport.

Actually Jay’s offers galvanic isolation, it is the implementation that differs. An IME the Jay’s CDT2 MK3 bettered the PST, not significantly but I prefer it. The fact that it performs without issue is also very important to me.

Nice to bring up Maybach at your local Ford dealer.

Ok thanks, didn’t know that.

No SACD would have eliminated it when I was looking. I know you’ve not been seduced by SACD but I find it a great medium.

I believe you are correct in that their current line of transports does not support SACD playback.

I just wanted to bring up the fact that even the top companys still do SACD plaback in some of the best transports in the world. Esoteric also has the Grandioso SACD/CD transport. I believe DCS get their drives from Esoteric which are simply gorgeous looking drives.
