Jay's Audio THE Flagship CDT3-MK3

I had a Jay’s CDT 2, MK3 and a PST. There wasn’t a sound difference to get excited about. The build of the Jay’s felt much more substantial.
But–I’m told by nutballs who I trust that the Jays CD3, MK3 is way better.

Lonson…I believe the purpose of galvanic isolation is to eliminate ground loops and the hum that can be caused by it. Many products do implement it in their construction.

I do know how that works.

Ok…I stand corrected then.

Per Jay’s Audio website, both the CDT2-MK3 and CDT3-MK3 employ galvanic isolation-- CDT2-MK3 via mRata Digital Transformer and CDT3-MK3 via Scientific Digital Transformer.

I fully agree with your statement. I was really pleased with the MK2v3 but the intense raving about the PST made me get one. No appreciable difference. Gave the MK2v3 to my brother after comparing it to the Gryphon Ethos with a MBL Reference System including 101 Extremes v2. The difference was shocking. Who knew such improvements were possible?

I would love to hear the Jay’s new transport. Somebody bring one over okay?

I know two guys who moved up from the Jay’s MK2 to the MK3. Both of them use the most overused descriptor in the audiophile lexicon: “night and day”. But one would expect that for double the price.
I rarely use my PST. But when I do, I’m satisfied with it.

Well the difference between the MK2V3 and the Ethos is night and day on Acid.
So there is room to believe.

Yes…deep pockets do have their advantages…Acid not so much!

I was just adding acid as a accent on night and day. It’s startling how different the ones and zeroes sound on the snake oil priced gear. And no, it is obvious to those who do not own the pricey gear as well. No placebo. I’d be willing to wager a large sum of money that ten out of audiophiles could identify which player sounds best ten out of ten times in a blind test.

But it’s much easier to say Acid.

Thanks for that detail. Yes galvanic isolation is in place.

Tempting…
The CDT3 Mk3 has been on my mind, but other persistent priorities. That Ethos is a rather special piece.

And the Jays was using the Ethos Dac.

And here I am, mesmerized by Roon Radio hearing all sorts of wonderful this and that. But I only hit two buttons and whatever cd I have in the Ethos is on. I’m going to do that now.

This was in there:

It seems nice.

Do either of you recall what PC and digital cable was used. Just curious.

It was a top tier Stealth power cable and a stealth AES EBU. It was the most drastic difference I’ve ever heard in an audio comparison I’m sure @aangen agrees. It was not subtle. I thought the Jays sounded good which IMO it did but the improvement the ethos player made was mind boggling.

Mind boggling, and thank-you. With those wires The Jay’s had every opportunity to shine, still at its price point it is a fine CD transport. The Ethos is in a league of its own.
