16 Jays Transports for 1 Ethos.
40,000 leagues puts me under water.
For what its worth the MBL 1621A Transport is in the same class sound wise. But it has no internal DAC.
I will put it on my shopping list.
But MBL is just an ordinary retangular box, I like the alien space ship looking of Ethos much better.
As rectangular boxes go, the MBL is Tip Top. Heavy, Heavy, Heavy construction. Massive Transport lid. Wonderful Disc clamp. It is a great design. The MBL Transport lists for $35K. The Gryphon $38k. As the Gryphon has a fantastic DAC (Stereophile Class A+) inside it, it seems to be a bargain in comparison. I would enjoy owning both.
But yes sir, that Triangle design is butch.
But the Jay’s Audio gear is massive as well. The third version is straight up audio porn inside. I hope it sounds quite a bit better than the second gen version that I was quite impressed with.
Another plus a for Ethos! Heavy heavy is not my cup of tea anymore! I’m removing MBL from my list as we speak (post I mean). Ethos is the one.
The MBL transport weighs a ton. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s double the EThos weight.
Also I need to keep PST. Neither MBL nor Ethos plays SACDs and I have a few hundred of them. I’ll still keep Ethos on the list now.
I have many SACD’s also. They are ripped now and I play them thru the Auralic Aries to the Ethos Dac. The ethos Dac will play native DSD64 or upconvert to dsd128. Both sound fantastic.
It is an interesting piece, and I will keep it on my radar.
Smart boy!
Tried to hear a DCS transport today. None present. The rest of the DCS stack was their though.
Was an alternate transport offered up as the DCS was unavailable?
Happy with the DCS Vivaldi Apex sound?
Inquiring minds would like to know, has the Ethos been de-throned?
No sir, Ethos is safe.
The new to me store I was in did not have a single device that could spin a silver disc. They had multiple rooms with the DCS 3 piece stack. We talked about the magic of the Ethos and MBL 1621A and the staff said they were certain the DCS transport can deliver the goods on the same scale. But in their experience too few customers are interested in silver discs. Streaming and vinyl, that’s it. I get it, sadly.
I really want to try the CDT3, just to know what it is capable of. If it is a big step up from the CDT2 MK3 it would be interesting to me.
How are your booboos?
someplace in town?
I would love to find a CD player that makes me want to spin the physical disc vs play it from its ripped state on the server. I tried the CDT2 a year or two ago, and it sounded good, but not much better than my Pi/HAT streamer. So I sold it off.
And now my silly Eversolo DMP-A6 sounds better than my old streamer, so I’m hard pressed to pursue more disc-playing gear at this point.
Maybe the only answer for my Luxman integrated is to get that really expensive Luxman SACD player, the D-10X. That’s probably the one.
I have had mine for almost 3 years now and never once thought about something else to replace it with. It is superb sounding, has bombproof craftsmanship & build quality… and never once a glitch/hiccup in its functional ability! Love mine!!!
The CDT3 Mk3 has been on my mind recently, but just replaced the drive in my CDT2 Mk3, so I’m content. At least for the moment. That Ethos is one special unit!
