Interesting - the only other people I know with that condition did it to themselves by snorting large quantities of drugs. Teflon liners among the wealthy (I kid you not) were then fashionable to avoid eating holes in your head.
I am the opposite; the sinuses are filled in with bone.
Ahh! I get it now, and the floating thing. Feeling pretty boneheaded myself lately…
So much can be explained by “Men In Black”…
Welcome back Brodric.
Hi Brodric. Never thought you would ever come back. The forum is just not the same without you, like it’s missing something. It’s good to see you are as humorous as you ever is. You told me my digital does not sound as good as my analog because i needed to improve my digital components. You are right. I’ve been improving my Aurender and it’s getting close. Maybe a Esoteric DAC or maybe the TSS when that comes out could send it over the top. Anyway, welcome back.
Which analog setup do you use?
Hey, I went to Med school… I pretend to be a coder though. FYI a Chiropractor is not an MD. Still great at what they do. I skip the chiropractor and use my own Percussor at home though. If you are into sports it will pay for itself.
I have the Well Tempered Reference Turntable and arm. The Benz LPS MR cartilage. The Esoteric E-02 phono stage. The Esoteric C-02 preamp, and the Esoteric A-02 power amp.
The PS Audio DS Sr. with Windom firmware, and the Aurender N10 with the Matrix 2 and Sbooster BOTW, and with WW Platinum and Audience FrontRow cables with the Esoteric pre and power amps sounds really close but not quite there as far as fullness, dynamics, and realness is concern. I need a better DAC as I feel that could be where can be better, that’s why I mention the Esoteric and TSS.
You would be surprised. the DSS is a heck of a DAC. Expect to spend 2-1/2 times more. The rest of your gear does outpace it though.
Wow, great setup!
So you’re one of those who don’t think digital is superior since the 80s
Yes, I started with vinyl and it was vastly superior back then, but digital has improved so much lately, maybe even surpassing vinyl in the super high end arena, I don’t know. I feel I am getting much of the analog musically with the constant improvement in the newer digital components. As of my present setup, it’s not quite there yet.
Welcome back!
Yes, the DS already is so good that without a direct comparison, nothing is really missing…and in certain characteristics it’s even hard to reach.
You are right, the DSS does punch above it’s class. It’s improving all the time with the new firmwares and all the mods. There seem to be no limit how good it can get. The Bruce Moore tubed preamp made it sound even better, but with a even better preamp like the BHK pre or I can tell you, when I put in the Esoteric, I couldn’t believe this DAC can sound so good. I don’t believe any other DAC in it’s price range can have such musically.
I can vouch that Digital left vinyl behind a while ago in the super high end arena.
I despise companies that douse their internals in resin as a means of copyright. I am not sure this is the case with Teddy Pardo though. I might never know. It is a $400 box. Give me a break if that is true. Since I see a lot of Chinese competition in that price range. Perhaps, that is exactly why he does it if so? It sounds okay. It is not a SOTM USBULTRA with SPS1000. In which case one may forgo USB entirely.
The only thing I have that can squarely beat the DSS hands down is my loaded MSB Select DAC II with mono power bases. You do the math. You want to talk $30,000? I have not heard anything that can completely beat it! Given all the issues though, I am scratching my bald head about the TSS.
Maybe a high quality tube dac would give you what your after?
Nagra, Lampizator, Waversa, etc…would be interesting if you could get a demo from a dealer to see if it gave a bit of “analog” smoothness to your (very impressive) system
Did you mention your speakers?
Best,
-JP
Hey Big B, welcome back and Merry Christmas, plus a very Wonderful and Happy Year.
Chas
I was thinking more in line of the Esoteric, TSS, maybe something like the MSB Select, since 2chan4ever can vouch for that being better. It does not take tubes to get the analog sound, it take engineering. I have heard SS sound more analog than some tubed gear.
Speakers is another story. I gutted a pair of Infinity Reference 3b’s and nothing is orginal except the drivers and cabinet. I use Cardas Golden 5C wires hooking up the drivers, wool mixture insulations, Mundorf caps, Flat ribbon pure copper inductors, Duelund resisters, Cardas binding posts, Microcan and Tekna vibration absorbers, Mableshade Mega footers, and the sound I just haven’t heard anything I want more so far. I was thinking about the Magico S5 MkII though. I heard the MkI at a high end show that sounded similar.
BTW I did listen to Nagra phono stage along with the Audio Research at a show room before I bought the Esoteric. The Nagra sounded a bit lean and bright, something like bad digital. The Audio Research was better but it broke during the audition, oh well. That was analog, could you imagine what the Nagra would sound like digital? Anyway maybe better listen before you buy, since it can be very costly.
Very cool,
All great DAC choices, I was just curious about what a tube DAC would sound like in a reference system like yours!
Best,
