Miles Davis Kind of Blue best sounding !?

this was my go to copy but today i change my mind;

I had get a better dac and after comparing the mono version to the gold disc, i prefer the mono version:

the cd sound like it was to fast remastered, sure direct to digital from the 3 tracks;

but the mono hdtracks is a tube transfers and the sasophone sound more present and the piano also; compare to example Freddie Freeloader. The mono version sound so great with Flamenco Sketches the piano is so present here.

so this mono version is the one i olny listen to now;
for me these 3 tracks before the 60 sound so great in mono!

ps. these old 3 tracks reels are not really stereo but 3 separated tracks, as i understand.

I have the Classic Records 200g vinyl cut by Bernie Grundman, all-analog stereo, as well as the Miles Davis mono box CD. Of the three that I own, the Classic Records vinyl sounds best.

Analogue Productions will soon ship a UHQR reissue using the Grundman plates made from 3 track. So for all who don’t have the single sided 45 RPM from Classic Records, this is the next best, should be even in sound quality. The definitive Stereo version.

Chad said in a video, CBS will never give away the 3 track master again, so it won’t get better than that old Grundman cut and that’s why they repressed it.

I have the Columbia LP, and I like its sound quality a lot.

Im looking still for a new mono remaster; if possible in dsd 256 thought :heart_eyes:

I was fortunate to get the DSD download from acoustic sounds that @adifferentpaul recommended. It was mastered by Gus Skinas from the original Columbia SACD masters. Unfortunately acoustic sounds no longer sells music downloads. The sound is the best I’ve heard on digital media.

I am looking for an SACD to potentially evaluate the PST.

I’m pretty sure I have the MoFi SACD. Let me
Check.

My preference as well.

I don’t have the MoFi. I have the original Sony pressing from the early days of SACD the first release.

Went for the 2015 Miles Davis KOB on MoFi. So I pulled the trigger on the PST and will have some SACDs handy to evaluate in my system. Thanks all for your suggestions. Now to find some shelves…

Miles Davis Kind of Blue SACD 2015 MoFi
Stan Getz Getz/Gilberto SHM-SACD 2021 Japanese
Nina Simone Little Girl Blue SACD 2021 Analog Productions
Patricia Barber Clique! SACD IMPEX 2021
The Dave Brubeck Quartet Time Out SACD 2012 Analog Productions
Charles Mingus Ah Um! SACD MoFi 2019
Duke Ellington Blues in Orbit SACD Analog Productions 2016

Plus I have Coltrane’s Lush Life SACD, Pink Floyd DSotM, The Police Ghost in the Machine, and all the original release RCA Shaded Dog SACDS, plus some others which I can’t recall off the top of my head.

The Duke Ellington and Brubeck are phenomenal some of the very best SACD’s IMO. The Harry Nilsson MOFI cd is really good. One SACD that I enjoy that doesn’t get a lot of love is Elton John Madman Across the Water. If you have a revealing system listen to this disc from beginning to end! It’s like listening to vintage Elton for the first time on my system! The Octave Audiophile Masters and Holly Cole Temptation you can add to a list for testing the PST DSD capability. I would add Patricia Barber Cafe Blue MOFI also.

ā€œMadmanā€ is by far the most successful EJ SACD reissue, in my opinion. The others were nice, but this one is really special. The title track in particular is jaw dropping.

I have the new UHQR, a very underrated 2010 RTI Kevin Gray reissue, the MFSL (SACD), and the Sony import (SACD). The two SACDs are on their way to me. Actually I just requested a replacement for my AP UHQR. I’m just sick of my vinyl problems (even with good vinyl my MC cart and tube phono-stage are picking up WiFi noises from my neighbor), so glad these SACDs are on their way.

Awful and true story: Just yesterday, I was asked to destroy my UHQR KoB wax, and so I decided to snap it in half (proof of destruction photo = new one). When I snapped that crazy thing, it made the loudest sound. I didn’t think it would shatter and be louder than a gun. Very concerned about my hearing. My shoes are laced with irony today.

A member of the ā€œI Love My VPI Turntableā€ group on Facebook posted photos of his copy, which he was also requested to destroy. He melted it into a fairly elegant-looking, scalloped-sided chip bowl. There were several others who’d been asked to provide evidence that they’d destroyed theirs as well in order to qualify for replacements. Must be a pretty widespread problem.

Which problem did your disc have?

An awful lot of Blue in Green noise after multiple cleanings. I had one of the lower numbers, and have heard good things about the changes.

Got mine recently and it’s fine. Compared it to the Classic Records 33 and 45 RPM.

It’s a little more transparent than the 33 but not as bass controlled as the 45 and on its level of transparency. So no worlds difference, but each, the new 33 and new upcoming 45 might sound a tiny bit better than the old one. Is it worth several hundred $ newly spent? Not really for most imo, if one’s not keen on a hell lot of packaging. One won’t hear differences on most setups I guess.

Do you think the MFSL or Sony import from Japan is better on SACD? Something else? I know there are one or two others.

I don’t have the Sony import, but as the Mofi is at least from the original analog 2 track masters, I’d think it’s better. I think the best that could have happened to the Japan import is to be from a previously digitized master, which would still be worse than the source of the Mofi.

All the Grundman, KG and RKS mastered vinyl is certainly better anyway, so you should better fix your phono Wi-Fi issue :wink:
