You’re not awaiting at least some first listening before returning? Mind you, you also have the 30 days return guarantee!
Hey Vince,
Aren’t there laws in some states against exposing feeble-minded audiophiles to audio porn, such as photos and descriptions of the Humboldt amp? Fortunately, I have my limits, and I will not be spending $55K on any amp, even if it has “the aesthetic flair of a Manhattan plastic surgeon” (at least according to TAS).
some of us are on the registry
I put in the new M-1 fuse into LHY SW-10 switch a few hours ago. Not only I did not hear improvement, but the sound was murky. I know M-1 fuse needs a couple hundred hours of break in, but it should not sound worse than the stock. Finally, I switched the direction (for who wants to know, the M-1 reads upside down in the vertical fuse box). Yeah, the improvement was instant and clearer. So, for every fuse I have had in the system, direction does play a role.
I have found changing the direction my toes are pointing has no effect on my tower that does nothing. Hmmmmm.
More research required. Scarves next.
You and your toes…you knuckle head …
When did you last see an audiologist?
Does the tower thingy have a fuse? If not, maybe you can just stick a Master to it somewhere. Maybe?
Hey Donald interesting that though Audio Magic states their M1 fuse non directional
it turns out from what we have experienced the AM M1 most certainly is directional.
Thanks for posting
Best wishes
Thats funny Ron I told him the same thing.
Both of my M1s sound the best the way I first (randomly) put them in. This made me wonder if they take on the direction in which they are first used. I would need a larger sample (i.e. more fuses ) to know for sure.
I have enough time on the Diablo 300 which came with an SR orange I ordered a SR master from the Cable Company should arrive Friday.
When I add up all of the piece parts of a separates system, the cost of the Humboldt isn’t far off in price. For me something like this would be a very long term purchase. Just think about how much you have spent already and forecast what you will spend over the next fifteen years.
Do you still need more inputs in your downsizing future? I suppose for both digital (Bartok/Rossini) and analog (Stellar Phono/TT), is it right? Or a tubed Preamp is still mandatory in your life due to sonically preferences?
A possible alternative to Integrates would be a DAC + AMP combo. Like MSB, so to speak. But MSB has abandoned CD transports, very disappointed choice in my opinion. For instance dCS Rossini combo (DAC+clock+transport) is a dream, really wonderful!
Whatever way you decide to go, nowadays it seems that on the amplification side there are more solutions to reduce the number of chassis, still improving high end sound quality. As counterpart on the digital sources side the tendency is to offer more separated chassis: DAC, power supply, clock, digital “isolator” devices like Upscaler/Matrix/Red/Digital director/Linq/AirLens, streamer, server, CD/SACD transport and so on). Quite odd.
In a “less is more” logic maybe manufacturers should design something more compact in next future or digital music reproduction inherently requires more separation along its path.
The Burmester is on my list, there’s several others as well.
I am only going to need one XLR for the DAC. No TT, No transport. I lead a clean life!
Lesser than less philosophy… mmm a really minimalistic approach! Maybe one day I’ll go for a similar route, too. I need to learn more, as usual.
Hi @akro , could you explain to me what would be the difference between using the Puritan versus a Power Plant? are they used for different purposes? thanks
@luca.pelliccioli is our most qualified expert, still deep in his exploration
He has both and comparing in various system configurations
Hi @luca.pelliccioli , could you tell me about the differences between Puritan and a Power plant? thanks
