Synergistic Research Purple fuse price drop

I just noticed that they are now selling for $199. A new one might be in the works?

No please don’t tell me!

I thought they were always $199.

Maybe I have my head up my ass…it’s happened before many times :^ / I was thinking they were $299

Happens to the best of us…

They were 200. M1 was 300 right?

Yes…

I predict the next SR fuse will sound better than both Purple and M-1 and will be more expensive than both too. I just hope it is not coming out soon.

And that SR Ted Denny would do us all a favor…for the price SR asks and we pay…
Burn those suckers in before they get distributed to dealers…make life easier for us…

Best wishes y’all

That will be the purple polka dot drive. There no reason any fuse should cost $300.

When I replaced the M1 with he Purple in the DS MKII, it brought more sparkle and punch to the sound so I did the same in the P20, I also replaced the M1 there with a Purple and the highs got even clearer and better air and separation. Sounds also richer and better transients. Sounds just as full too. I think I’ll stick with the Purple in the P20 for awhile and see if I like it more.

Word on the street is that the new fuse replacing the Purple will be scented so the airiness is better defined.

I wonder if over time the M-1 SQ may degrade. When it was first installed, most thought it sounded better than Purple in the generator. Either that or MK2 likes Purple better along the entire chain.

My feelings are the MKII is a much more detailed and resolving DAC and the Purple lets the MKII shine more. The M1 is more towards the duller more conservative side which doesn’t help the DAC much. The Purple really brings more liveness to the sound.

Wow! I just listen to some more music with the Purple and it made even more difference than just putting it in the MKII or maybe it cumulative of being in both units, but it’s much more live and exciting and powerful sound with the Purples.

I had three Purple fuses in at one time, then I added one M-1 and liked it very much. Later I moved to two M-1s and two Purples and I liked it even more. Finally, I moved to three M-1s and one Purple, and the sound was fuller but not necessarily better I believe.

Now I am back to two M-1s and two Purples again and like the setup much better. I tend to think it has a lot to do with MK2 in the picture. Will I go back to three Purples and one M-1 again? Probably not, and I think with two and two I am getting the best of both designs, plus I do not want to find out since I got rid of all my Purples already :expressionless:

If your system sounds balanced, you’re fine. I just find it interesting that fuses affect the sound so much and you can tune your system with them. I have just 3 units that uses fuses in my system, the DS MKII, the PST, and the P20 so, the rest of my system do not use fuses, so there’s not much combinations of fuses for me. When I was using the DS MK1, Having Purple in both DAC and P20 was a bit too much, too bright and forward sounding, but with the MKII, it seem to handle it much better and not go overboard. Thought I just put it out there for those thinking about fuses.

My problem with the purple is it distorted the saxophone. Deep bass and highs are good. I Think bass is more detailed with M-1s. My plan is the mKIi will get the ultimate beeswax SHD out of mKI. The premiere version was too thick in in mid bass. I think that will cure the thickness issue of MKII with stock fuse and it doesn’t distort sax like purples.

To be honest, I joined the purple band wagon last year, I have since removed them apart from in my P20. I found it killed the high end for me, got ride of all life - too filtered. Each fuse I added into the chain added an extra glassy note in the upper mids as well. I live in the UK if that makes a difference electrically. Orange ones are fine in that regard for me.

I am back to being off fuses. The ones that are in are staying, no new ones will likely be purchased.
