Not complicated in my world. Unlike @luca.pelliccioli, everything in my system is plugged into a Puritan PM156. I have 2 or 3 Ultimate cables and the basic Puritan cable for something else.

Ironically, although I was going to buy from Puritan direct (they are nearby) I bought my Puritan kit from a dealer in a part-exchange for my Shunyata. The dealer wanted my Shunyata kit to try out (and gave me an excellent price, almost what I paid). A few weeks later he became a Shunyata dealer. He considered the Puritan kit just as good, but he also wanted to tap the market for the Shunyata brand and its high profit margins. So he now sells both. Some people just like paying 3 or 4 times more for a brand value and shiny boxes.

Are you saying I exaggerated? Okay, I admit it.

Let’s say I enjoy music “for a while”, until the S202 is here. At least.

Did you ever try a combination of Shunyata+Puritan or PSA regen+Puritan? Are your Puritan cable’s connectors original or upgraded?
Thanks.

I had a regenerator and stopped using it because it made no difference with Class D amplification, plus the fan or something inside was making a lot of noise. I sold it to a German guy who wanted to use in a lab and didn’t mind the noise.

The Shunyata cables come at a standard 1.75m length and are pretty rigid - very impractical in a limited space. Puritan Ultimate is the most flexible cable ever and can be made to any length. I use 1m.

I had two old model Shunyata cables that I sold to someone I knew for a good price (to him!). I had a Shunyata Hydra Alpha UK10 conditioner and C19 mains cable, that I exchanged with the Puritan dealer.

The PM156 is also about half the size and a third the weight of the Shunyata.

So I just swapped the Shunyata for Puritan with the dealer in a supermarket car park on a cold Saturday morning. I did not have both at the same time.

The Puritan connectors are heavy duty copper BS1363A compliant. Mike Lester at Puritan told me what brand he uses, I forget which, but they are very solid.

As far as I’m concerned, connectors and receptacles are all about mechanical strength. My PSA regenerator had the worst UK sockets, also a reason for not using it. You had to raise it up to use standard angled UK plugs and straight plugs (like Furutech) fell out. Shunyata have the strongest receptacles. The Puritan is also very good, not risk of anything disconnecting.

I use a Furutech wall receptacle. I’ve had it 15 years. It’s a very tight fit.

They are all mounted like this. My guess is they fit better internally and easier to wire with this config.

Reading through this thread and other forums, I took the leap and bought a Master for my Lumin X1 as was recommended by the website as where to start. It replaced a Purple. The site also mentioned that it should be “immediately” better and if not, you should turn it around. I started with the same orientation as the Purple and it certainly was NOT immediately better. After 50 hours (24/7) I turned it around. Better, but not what I was expecting from what I had read here.

Then I hit the 200 hour mark and things began to change for the much better. The first thing I started to notice was detail. Subtleties that had to be strained for before were just right there. Nice! Then it was the soundstage and separation. Huge improvements here between 300 and 500 hours. Very cool to hear music you ABSOLUTELY know become almost something new. Had a great time with that. After 500 hours came the relaxing and smoothness that took months with the Purple. The Master is MUCH better (IMHO) at this then the Purple ever thought about being. I love the Master!!

Once I got to 1000 hours without any more changes, I decided to buck the trend and website and bought one for my PASS 30.8, which the X1 is plugged directly into without a pre.

Once again replacing a Purple, I started (and ended) with the same orientation. Once again, no “immediate” major change, and in fact some etchyness that was not pleasant. Had the same thing in the X1 but not as prevalent. Knowing that it would need some time, I let her play, and my patience paid off. The etchyness was basically gone after about 50 hours, but once again, no major change from the Purple.

Then the 200 hour mark came around again and all the same goodness I heard from the X1 Master began, but even more so…

The background is so black now that those details I spoke of jump out on certain songs now. So VERY cool!!! The separation and soundstage are now solidifying singers and instruments in there places. So eerily so that “In the room” is taking on a whole new meaning. Depth of singers from the mic is crazy realistic. Doors and believe it or not Roth Van Halen are demonstrating this the most. I am loving this…!

The Master in the PASS will be crossing the 500 hour mark this weekend, and I will be looking for an extension of the smoothness I got with X1 Master around this point.

Hate to say it guys, but I am getting more from the Master in the amp then the source…as was recommended. Don’t mean to put any undo pressure on wallets with this statement, but in my case it is the truth.

Very nice summary. My SR Master replaced a purple in the P 10 power plant. However, I felt an immediate improvement in the form of better stage presence and detail. After a longer break-in period, the sound became even smoother and better image . I also tried the SR Master in my Edge NQ. Swap each Purple vs Master. The Master also offers a nicer experience in the Dac/Streamer/Preamp. With only one SR Master in the system I have the greatest gain in the power plant. Sooner or later I’ll get another master for my Edge NQ. I think that will be an increase again.

Luca, what is your further experience after a few days with the SR Master?

Al’s rabbits also want SR Master fuses for more silence  Greetings Andrew

Anyone else toying with the idea of adding more Master fuses to their system?
SR’s recommendation is two maximum with the remainder Purple fuses.
I’m already at my two.

Possibly in due time…

Hi Stier2704,

after more than 50 hours of listenings with the Master fuse I can confirm my first impressions, the improvement is constant and incremental.

I sent my Mediterraneo TT to Gold Note headquarter (to be simply cleaned and checked after 2 years) and my rack on side wall has noticeably emptied and lowered in height. I don’t know if the cause is the changed space in my room or the growing burn-in of the Master fuse but the soundstage is remarkably wider.
Can’t wait to play music tonight, just arrived home after a hard day working… I need my audio relaxation hours… NOW!

Hello Luca and the others.
Yes, I also noticed the wider sound stage with the Master. Only this is not only wider but somehow more appealing real.
While the stage on the Purple seemed wide but flatter than on the AM Ultimate Premier. I always had to think about the advantages and disadvantages of the presentation.
The Master sounds right. It doesn’t even occur to me to think about cons.
It also seems to me that the sweet spot is expanded after burn-in. Even if I move my head back and forth in the listening position or if I’m not sitting in the middle, the image remains stable.
For me, the soundstage builds up slightly behind the speakers. But it also goes beyond the speakers laterally. The loudspeakers are no longer audible. Actually, it seems like the speakers are just in the way and I should push them away.:joy:

There is no need for a bacch with an ear microphone. :joy:

Greetings Andrew

A large, airy room with sufficient sideways spacing of the loudspeakers would be ideal for a perfect stage presentation. That’s what I heard once at Progressive Audio (Padis), the German distributor for Furutech. Since then I have had the desire to achieve such a sound representation. With Harry Belafonte you could hear him moving back and forth on stage, the stage creaking, the microphone cable dragging behind him. The master helps immensely to get a little closer to reality. The tip with the fabric ceiling over the TV between the system helps with a better display. I still had a slab of acoustic foam. When I put them in front of the TV, the sound seems sharper and more three-dimensional.

I perfectly understand, Andrew. We tend to consider the importance of the soundstage one of the crucial things, isn’t it? This entire hobby is founded on the challenge to “feel” the music, not only to “hear” it, so the illusion of the lifelike musical performance is the goal.

If you read my other dedicated thread “Center image is driving me crazy” you can understand how symmetry is my obsession, from a few songs of John Mellencamp I started a battle, a suffering, a painful period that drove me crazy until I decided to rebuild my basement. 3 months of theory (night and day), 4 months waiting and ordering stuff, 3 months of hard work (not personally me, I’ve not the right to say something like this, being a lazy guy!),

Having said that, in my very short audiophile experience, I learnt that the ROOM is the key if you are searching for the most impactful factor able to improve soundstage and music image.
No amps, no cables, no speakers, no recordings, no tweaks, no fuses {yes Al, Master included), no DACs (silver or black), no switches… are as much crucial as the ROOM to achieve that goal. It means on both acoustically and electrically aspects.

Secondly, speakers set-up and/or a glass (or two) of wine!

The only maintenance I’ve done to my turntable in 10 years is to change the bearing oil. You can get a kit for €20. It’s easy and well worth doing. Just NEVER use a Q-tip, you have to use these medical swabs.

Thanks Steven, I’m not that kind of practical guy.

My wife always says that I’d need to change but, you know… even for a bulb replacement I call my electrician. Kidding apart, my dealer will be during the weekend at the Gold Note headquarter in Tuscany, he’s a friend of the owner Maurizio Aterini, that’s why I accepted to send let him pick up the Mediterraneo TT for a check up (also for a DIN connector to be adjusted).

It’s a beautiful looking turntable. Like everything from Italy.

@davida ,

I finally took the plunge and ordered 1 Quantum Master Fuse. Since this thread is nearing 1000 posts and the first 595 reasons not to flush the cash in the :toilet: has been exceeded. As I have found it takes no amount of extra plunging to quickly depart from cash once deposited in audiophile bank of deposits that may never pay interest or make withdrawals exceedingly difficult.

Better know as the local no savings and groan.

Welcome to the club.
According to SR you only need one or two, wait and see. I look forward to your verdict. If you’re convinced, we’ll get Al, too.:joy:
