I downloaded it" and installed it successfully. I will do some serious listening this weekend.
My initial impression based on 15 minutes of listening: It seems both warmer, and darker. I’m not sure if this actually sounds “better” or not yet. But it does not sound the same, and so far I’m not getting the feeling of being “blown away” yet.
I am also noticing what seems like it might be some odd HF artifacts when I’m listening to [Aimee Mann] “Lost in Space” as DoP from Coax in my left channel. But I’m not certain about what I’m hearing yet. I will have to get my wife to listen to make sure that this is not just my imagination playing tricks on me.
More to come later…
My thanks to both dvorak and Dev for listing what the system info screen should look like. Although I’d thought the Beta 2 version had been loaded, it showed 1.8.3 rather than 1.8.7 for the firmware. Not sure what I did wrong but erased the newest version of Torreys from the SD card, started from the beginning, did the install again and it now reads properly.
No wonder it sounded the same to me last night. LOL
Will commence listening tests shortly.
Is anyone experiencing problems with the Bridge? Initially it worked but the screen was frozen and I couldn’t switch inputs and the data displayed on the Bridge screen didn’t include any info regarding the track playing. I initialized the DAC again but the Bridge no longer saw my network. The other inputs seem to work fine. I then reset the Bridge itself and it reconnected to my network but I have the frozen screen/no track information problem again.
Didn’t experience any of this with the previous Torreys Beta.
I’m on the new Torrey’s and bridgeII working just fine
Hmm…I’m using the original Bridge I.
Edit: Rolled the OS back to the initial Torreys Beta and the Bridge I is now functioning properly. Unless something comes up in the meantime, I’ll wait for the final Torreys OS before switching back.

I am looking into this now, I have one BridgeI that works and one that does the same thing you are seeing.

Just uploaded Torreys B with no loading issues. Initializing bar worked fine. Will get back later with an audio assessment…
Paul and Ted,
Thank you so much for all the work that went in to this and for making it freely available. This is what makes PSA customers so loyal! You are the best!!
It’s 90 today and through the weekend. Not ideal for long listening sessions with tube amps and no a/c . . . but I think I will not be able to help myself after reading all these comments. I just did the download.
magicknow saidPaul McGowan said Ok, guys. All the bugs should be gone. After hours and hours of listening, this one's even better than the first. Have fun and please post on this thread your comments. If we’re good, this will be the final release, perhaps on Monday.
Paul what is the status on the Roon code for the Bridge?
magicknow
Roon code for the Bridge is good to go. We’re checking now with Roon to make sure everything’s cool on their end and then we’ll likely do a quick beta test. Stay tuned to this station for further details.
Downloaded and loaded to DS without any issues… No issues with functionality… Only been playing 50 mins… I will report more after exhaustive listening time… Definitely better than Torreys beta… I am switching between Torreys (beta) in one DS and the latest incarnation in my second DS and the difference/improvement between the two is without question - it’s more realistic and more musically engaging with the new Torreys… Listening to Joan Baez, Bowery Songs, Live - Redbook CD - the scale of the sheer performance actually made me laugh at how incredible it now sounds… The depth and width of the soundstage is even deeper than Torreys beta, which is no slouch in this department… Hearing greatly enhanced amounts of information and detail, a greater separation, a ‘huge dynamic range’, etc, etc… It just sounds fantastic… Torreys (beta) was/is truly excellent but new Torreys is another jump up in performance… Ted, you’ve nailed it again… Well done Paul & team P S…
ozzymilton said Just downloaded it and now playing some Bob Seger.Superb! Very natural and wide open soundstage with outstanding frequency response.
Paul, Will I need to download the final version Monday or am I all set?
Ken
If we don’t find anything terribly wrong (there will always be bugs of some magnitude) this will become the final version. If that happens, no need to do anything. You’re all set.
wizardofoz said Is this applicable only to the DS DAC or also to the Junior? The DS and the Jr use slightly different versions of the FPGA code - Torreys will be ready for the Jr a little after it's released for the DS.
makfi said unfortunately i cannot check the new torreys until tonight, but i would be very interested to hear how this improvement came about in matter of 2 weeks. The zipper noises that a few people reported in the Torreys beta at low volume levels showed a bug in the FPGA. One of the early bug fixes I tried didn't make the expected difference so I found a way of getting a little more accuracy in the depths of the final upsampling filter so that the first fix would fix the original zipper noise problem.

I too found this new Torreys the best yet!
loaded smoothly, no functional issues (using bridge2)
there are already few things sounding really nice like quickness/details in mids, stereo imaging is more detailed/precise, however I can again hear soundstage is for some frequencies shifted slightly to the left side (voice frequency range and possibly also bit lower frequencies) - I had this behaviour with 1st Torreys beta, then it was gone with 2nd Torreys beta and now here it is again - this is quite strange… - will investigate bit further soon - I intend to play mono track and then switch also preamp to mono to compare if there would be any change). When playing stereo track and triggering mono on preamp, the image is dead-center.

i get that, too.
plus, i guess i am among the very few that prefer the first torreys. this latest one is slower and a bit confused in the midrange to my ears. but no probs i can always switch back to first beta

Just upgraded to Torreys and have exactly the same problem using Bridge 1 so have also had to switch back to Yale. There is no playback information on the display and the DS is unresponsive to remote or to the On / Off switch on the front. It does play music though, there is no question of that, it sounds superb. To sum up in a couple of words, I would just say it sounds so “Natural” and “Right”. A massive thank you to Ted, Paul and all of the PS Audio team who have made this happen. A free upgrade of this magnitude is much appreciated.
Well, I’m a dissenter, i.e. I much prefer Yale. Paul knows why. I don’t want to influence others so won’t explain. I do however have a big system with plenty of power. Dan.
UPDATE - after further listening I now find myself warming to Torreys. My initial reservation was mainly to do with voices being more recessed than with Yale. However, on tracks that sound better with Torreys I have to say they sound really good. Let’s see what tomorrow brings!. D.
FINAL UPDATE (for today) - after yet more testing with different tracks I’ve come back to my original conclusion. My system is large and has pre-processing of 44.1 to 96/24 along with 48db FIR filtering. Torreys sounds uninvolving and sterile whereas Yale is the complete opposite - dynamic (I consider the sound nothing short of astonishing!). Hopefully next week I’ll get someone else’s opinion but for now it’s Yale for me.
