I’m addicted to AC-12s. Everytime I try another power cord I compare it to the AC-12 and so far the AC-12 wins.
The one that comes closest recently is an earlier PS Audio cable, the xStream Statement SC. Like the AC-12 this is a PCOCC cable. It is a touch warmer, a touch slower. Just a touch, and there are advantages with some material.
My experience is that power cords, even for a P15 that goes before a system, can impart a light signature on a system and as a result their “sound” is system-dependent.
Regarding fake AC12s, if you know the length and weight you could ask PSA.
With AC5s I can feel the twists inside the brade (and I know the weights for different lengths).
Here’s a pic of a fake AC12 (effectively cooker cable with genuine looking plugs - I hate to think how many of these are around and people paying good money for them).
Pangea power cables like the AC9SE with Crdas Grade 1 copper plus
a silver plated copper braided over double sided aluminum foil,
argon gas sealed terminations…
ok thanks. I am going to try them from the P15 to wall and BHK pre to P15. Thinking of taking the ac-12 from BHK250 to the P15… this leaves my DAC with stock for the time being.
for the DAC try the Pangea AC 14SE MK II same config same materials just
smaller gauge…large gauge for sources not so good kind of like putting
a 4 barrel quadrajet on a 1.5 liter engine…
One more thing that can be confusing is that there is 9se and is not the 9se MKII the MKIIs
are newer and much better than the other 9s…same goes for the 14se not the same asMKIIs
don’t let it get you
I always worry about fake AC12 cables. I have two that I bought used. So, I have a genuine AC5 I bought from Upscale Audio and I just replace the AC5 with the AC12. The AC12 sounded better both times so I assume I have a genuine AC12. Seem logical?
The fake AC12 I had was a plain cable whereas the genuine AC5s that I have texture under the braid, i.e. when you rub the genuine cable hard with your thumb you can feel that it’s got a twist and is not just a plain cable. HTH
