I had the M1 in the PST for a couple weeks and then recently put them in the BHKPRE and the DACSR at the same time. Got greedy I guess. Had it in the P20 for over a month. A sonic bump every time with each one planted but also an increase of veiling, especially in the lower mids.
Try narrowing the absorbent sheet and it should help. I will order my 3rd M-1 for my BHK pre.
I have a different feeling. Now with 3 Kings in the system (P20/BHK Pre/SPP) the absorber sheet on the P20 (laid on the lid, externally) IME is able to mitigate the āveilā effect of the fuses. It opens the sound and extends the soundstage right/left, high frequencies are more pleasant. In general clarity, cleaning and brightness are the words that IMO better describes its pluses.
This effect playing CDs is more pleasant, in a sense that completes and compensates the pluses of the M-1s (pay attention the 3rd fuse in my case is on analog rig so PST with Purple and DAC with stock fuse).
Playing LPs something goes wrong, the effect tends to be too much bright and less pleasant (here I have 3 M-1 in the path). I found the 3rd King in SPP revelatory due to its ability to create a so silent background and a sort of balance that brings realism as I ever heard in my system and I can call it āmagicā. In this case I do not prefer on the contrary the 3M sheet because, even if it does its work to open and unveil the sound, the absorber eliminates the āmagicā - itās like subtractive so to speak.
I still havenāt tuning rings in place.
I think the combination of Purple and M-1 and absorber is wonderful on the digital side. While the combination of 3 M-1s on analog side is simply perfect as it is, especially since I put the King in the SPP the āmagicā happened all at once!
I will play with the absorber sheet on the P20 and report back. On balance, I like the musicality and imaging of the the M1ās. Essentially, instruments and voices sound more real and are more easily identified in space. This has come with additional sheen in the mid and mid/bass region. I have found this attribute a characteristic of vintage signal tubes from Telefunken and Amperex that sound gorgeous but seem to lag when real world transients are in play. The Purples are fast and resolving but not as likable in the digital domain. There lies the rub.
I hope I will get the best of both worlds. I didnāt think fuses were another ācomponentā to match, but here we are.
It is good to know you like the absorbent on P20 for digital, and the improvements you mentioned from the tweak is what I heard too. But in my system the energy bursts more in mid and low frequencies resulting in unbalanced sound. In your case, the absorbent sizing may be appropriate for your P20 already.
Tonight, the adjustment made the sound even better than earlier. āClose to Meā by Susan Wong, a SACD, is one of the great recordings I use for evaluation. Her voice is back to one octave higher, and the mid/low frequencies are not over weighted as before. The system never sounded better. One interesting effect is now the volume seems a bit lower than before, but it could be due to bloated mid/low energy from past.
The 3M absorbent helped absolutely, but one must pay attention to the sizing and placement. Minor changes make an impact on sound.
I think the secret sauce might be in the power cord tuning ring to clear up the midbass bloat. Either on P20 or your digital stream power cord. My system can give some of those characteristics. The tunin rings on P20 and router switch can really bring a balance.
Besides BBQ, I spent some time tuning my system on July 4th. I was doing a four-hour baby ribs slow-grill so I got a lot of free time.
Changing tuning ring on Dragon HC at various positions, I found the best sounding location is 5ā away from female plug, which is about one inch further than the original position. This little adjustment has brought back the balance on all frequencies, and more importantly the magic! Everyone heard the improvement too!
The ribs are perfect too, just like the music!
Amazing how such a seemingly small adjustment yields such noticeable and positive results.
Thank you Donald, can you share some pics? Of the ring not the ribsā¦
Itās time I try also this Vmax tweak so.
All this time I thought you had your priorities straight. I am deeply disappointed.
Okay I just moved to the new position of 5 inches behind IEC. The balance really improves. At 4.5 inches the highs are too sharp. It is a necessity with more M-1s. Damn sounds good.

@dchang05 you are teaching me new tweak tricks!
I think with the M-1 fuses, the tuning ring adjustment really makes a difference. Could you send Luca a picture? I have an early golf so downstairs is all dark, and I will not have time until tomorrow afternoon. Thanks!
Luca,
This is the tweak with sorbothane isolator. It requires you to reduce volume on some earlier recordings prior to 1960. It is perfect at 12 watt peaks. But my system is big blue power meters. Overall I like it better than the one index finger at four songs in.
It is pretty much visceral live sound. The bass is back shaking my seat at 37percent volume. It plays really well with newer music. A doobie brothers Takinā It To the Streets is very good too. Might be the answer to multiple M-1s.
It is Nailing some Junior B yello from OnThe Eye. You maybe on to a new Dragon tuning ring tweak positioning.
My wife is digging the sound on the far end of the house. So I will ride it at 5 inches for a while.
Lost Without You. Freya Ridings. Is quite the experience at my 12 watt setting. Got to love this forum and how we push the envelope across continents and oceans!
Thank you so much. This evening Iām going to try it. Soon Iāll share my thoughts.
Ready to leave for a good round, and this afternoon Iāll enjoy the ānewā setup more.
Luca, Have fun from @vmax tuning ring tweaks. Start on Female plug side and gradually move away from it to hear!
