Picked Up the Stellar P3

No fan in the P12

Really? But it has no external heat sinks, unlike P15 and P20.

Large opening on top, like the BHK pre.

If your just looking for protection look into Surgex and Brick Wall. I am using the large Surgex in the Family Room on the two channel audio system along with the Plasma TV and video sources.

Guy’s please don’t fight here. My P20’s are noisy and my power maxes out at 123V in USA. Well within spec. My DS has been replaced, repaired Twice. Things that are driven by computers have bugs. Do you know how often I have to troubleshoot Windows 10 Pro?

I really wanted to know what those long “tubes” are filled with in most of the passive units. I saw Chang Lightspeed. In their top model they have about 100 of them so it must be the best one

Technically P20 is better no doubt but too noisy for bedroom. With music at a decent level don’t hear it. Like when your car makes a bad noise just crank up the stereo!
I honestly think Dectet would be fine and it is not expensive. To me at least. All the power strips are the same thing and all the passive rack mounts are the same thing. For the record Torus is even nosier than P20 and not even computer driven! That is just inherent with very large energized Toroid.

I was also wondering if the Quintet was better than the Dectet or vice versa?
Furutech makes “surge strips” like that for $4,000. Also Furman’s top regenerator is $4410 and is 100% made in China. To their credit at least they do a good job but rather have PS Audio.

I think this line conditioner is also worth checking out.

And they are in Colorado! 60-day money back trial is the icing on the cake.
Although they missed mentioning a 4th important function of a power conditioner, and that is to block interference between connected components. Shunyata have a good video about that affect, plugging stuff into a power conditioner they can all pollute each other, not withstanding any of the electrical pollution being blocked from the wall socket.

Even the Panamax does that. That thing is much too large. I need something compact, passive. I imagine Dectet is the same as any other “strips” and all the small boxes are pretty much the same thing as well. What is the magic in those pvc pipes?

It is a “Nano crystalline powder” IE: Magic powder. Stick with a common strip I guess.

Core Technologies was bought by Underwood Wally. He sells at bargain basement prices, but no returns. So you have to be sure about something before you buy.

Fair enough, but that sales model is illegal in Australia.

I purchased all my PS Audio gear from him, after doing much research. I did however freakout afterwards when my DMP and DSD were having a lot of issues. Luckily PS Audio made everything right.

My P20’s buzz. So today I got a Torus RM15. For our bedroom. Being much smaller you cannot hear the buzz unless a foot away. I spent more than I wanted to but I don’t mind. Just like my P20’s It enhanced Focus and Bass. I am not ashamed to say I did not get the P3. I already Gave PS about 70 Grand. OH, I put an old Anaconda VX cord on the Torus.

I believe what buzzes in the Power Plants is not the Toroid. It may be the Mosfets operating at high current. The Power Plants are just “amplifiers”. they convert AC to DC and back to AC. DC is much more stable. thus removing all the nasties in the AC. However it is very inefficient AFAIK, hence the noise. An “online” UPS is a much better solution but very expensive to own and operate. The Torus I got has AVR. Automatic Voltage Regulation. Actually the best thing you can do for digital components and amplifiers is to keep the AC at a steady 115VAC. It achieves this. It uses a smaller toroid for the AVR which is customary. There is one other small Toroid on the side but I am not sure what that does. This unit is passive. The large toroid simply “filters” the electricity. Probably better than other passive solutions out there. It does no conversion, is not an amplifier and has no mosfets. Hence it is dead quiet. It is no secret Power Plants make some noise. It is by their very nature. However they do very well at “conditioning” the electricity. Probably better than the Torus. Although I do not want the buzzing in the bedroom. the Torus is small but weighs 80 pounds. It actually uses a much bigger main toroid than Power Plants due to simply being a filter. In the Power Plants the toroid powers the “amplifier”. the toroid itself has nothing to do with power conditioning AFAIK in Power Plants. It simply powers the amplifier like any other amplifier. However stereo amplifiers simply convert AC to DC. Not back to AC again as do the Power Plants. I wish I could have had a P3 but for one thing not enough outlets and for another the noise while trying to sleep. I doubt the Torus is “quite” as good as a Power Plant but it shall suffice. At least it is not a Panamax or APC!

Plugging my PA into a P10 did just the opposite. I think the P3 is a little too small for a larger PA.

I have a P15 PowerPlant and it is absolutely dead quiet. Not a whisper, not the lightest hum, neither when in use nor in stand-by. Is in USA so maybe foreign voltage is different.

What buzzes is the output relay on the regenerator board. It shouldn’t buzz. If it does it’s cause for rectification.

P20 is running at 50% capacity and is silent even with my ears an inch away.

Saw there was some debate on whether or not the P12 has a fan.

It does have a fan, and it is pretty much inaudible. It’s thermally controlled, so most of the times the heatsinks are dissipating the heat unaided. Only when the unit gets hot enough (and that takes a pretty heavy sustained load) will the fan kick on.

When they do, you have to get within a couple inches of the P12 to hear it.

Figures mine make noise. My luck stinks. DS screen replaced unit and then repaired several times. Now locked up again. I just use the remote and forget about it already. It is not PS Audio, it is my luck. I have all manner of stuff malfunction. I do not abuse things, just bad luck.
