The entire artwork struggle with my memory player is about to get the best of me, for sure! I thought the object of connecting the memory player to the Internet was the huge, great database of information, tracks, times, and yes, ARTWORK that will display on the Memory Player, and that is just not the case at all. I think 1 of 30 or so discs I have played have displayed artwork, which is certainly no database! If I take 15 minutes to download the album cover, the tracks in order, the time of each track, and the artist, eventually, the artwork “might” appear on my memory player display, maybe, possibly, no guarantee, and this is certainly a disappointment. I have spoken to the PS staff, who are extremely nice, like Jeremy, but they have no answers at all, other than, “it’s complicated” yep, it must be, because I see nothing on mine, unless I spend a great deal of time downloading every detail of every album, It just seems there is no database, unless we make it, just so disappointing and time consuming. My Play List comes up empty on almost every disc I play on my memory player, unless I take the time to input all the data, PUNK, PUNK, PUNK. Someone needs to address this or not have the feature and not connect to the Internet, as it does no good in regard to pulling artwork and data.
I’d say I feel your pain. . . but I don’t connect to the internet, don’t care about cover art and info etc. on the screen. I just love the sound! 
I agree that if there is such a feature and you want to use it the fact that it hardly works is frustrating.

We spoke on the phone about a week ago and tried to work out the kinks. Receiving and displaying the artwork on the DMP is a new system, and is still a work in progress. It is a bit clunky, but overtime should become more smooth and reliable. We had to design a system from the ground up because the meta data and album art for SACDs doesn’t exist. Musicbrainz is the main source for redbook CDs, but they have very little info for SACDs. We are slowly developing our database for these SACD IDs, and are very appreciative when customers add to and share their playlists with the rest of the community. Though a clunky system, it’s still a work in progress, and it will become more reliable soon.

I appreciate your response and just let me mention, even when I take the time to add all of the date, and album covers, it’s no guarantee they will surface the next time the disc is played, they might or might not, even with the data inputted to the site. I was hopeful many standard CD would show up, but they don’t show up either, I have to input all of them as well. I think out of 30 or so, I have had one pop up with the artwork there on a CD, but that was the only one. The rest I have done complete uploads on. Again, I appreciate your response and concern, it’s such a nice feature to see the colorful artwork, it just does not work, and hopefully it will at some point in time.

@jamesh - PS Audio splashes the information about artwork, track lists etc. all over its advertising. You never see a picture of a DMP (or PWT) not showing artwork. There is always the mention of the database for artwork for CDs & SACDs. If the feature worked consistently it would be understandable. It is the flakiness that gets most of us. I religiously keep my playlist up to date and many times I am asked to add to what I call ‘the hive’. Sometimes my CDs and SACDs that are in my playlist do not show the artwork. Sometimes they do.
I look forward to PS Audio getting this sorted out.
This has been a continuing frustration for many and we have had many discussions about it. I find the artwork amusing,it does not really matter to me if it does not appear, but I fully appreciate wanting it to be there.

I have loaded in few albums, but have loaded in dozens of artwork (it is really easy as I already have the jpgs on my server). Anything I have loaded appears the next time I play the disk.

I too am frustrated about the amount of time spent inputting data to My Playlist and finding it does not display on the DMP. Describing it as clunky is appropriate but the bigger issue is if this is how a music database operates merely for a single CD - what hope is there for the Octave Music Server in terms of reliably tracking and displaying info on the TB stores it will presumably contain? I have a bbr CD of the Emotions that when played lists the info from CD2 of the Wilson Pickett Rhino boxed set and there is nothing I can apparently do to change it - much as I’ve tried.

Octave will use a different database and a great deal of effort is being put into making certain it works. Paul and clan recognize how frustrating this has been for users of the existing system and how important it is for a server to get it right. This is particularly difficult for classical.

I’m sorry, I just don’t get it. Did any of you buy the PWT or DMP so you could see the album cover or the data on the little screen?
I sure didn’t, I tried it, and after sending in my transport, never hooked up the Ethernet cable again. You can’t read it from more than a few feet away, and if you are like me, you dim the display, as soon as you sit down. I prefer the big numbers, those I can actually see. Even if it was the DAC with downloads, you have the controller, a tablet or phone in your hands. My buddy has the DMP, DS Snr, and an Aurender. The Aurender shows the groups name and track name, that’s it. Maybe it has sub menus, but he didn’t use them.
Many of you started with vinyl, or still play vinyl, don’t you remember taking that cover back to your listening seat? you probably read everything on the cover, followed the lyrics if included. Did that for the first three or four plays, then just set the cover somewhere and listened. It was the same way when the CD came out, just with a jewel box, that had smaller cover art, and info.The DMP and PWT are just very advanced disc players.

I wrote up basically the same thing yesterday, but my tablet locked up so I lost the post. In it I mentioned Octave, Paul wants it to be the best sounding player both physically, and software that will compete, or better Roon. If they succeed I’m sure there will be a firmware update for your transports. But in the meantime, will someone please tell me why you are inputting your disc info online, when you have it right there in your hands?
Years ago, when I had a manageable number of CDs I created a spreadsheet that I add every CD to, so I don’t buy the same one twice, it also is good for insurance claims, as I back up that data, when I add new CDs. I do have a list of LPs on paper, but that one got away from me years ago. Having a playlist online just does not appeal to me, it actually seems like something that would get in the way of just listening. These are my opinions, so remember that, when you explain why you need the little picture, and data you can’t read from across the room. Maybe I am missing something that makes having this a great required feature, and if someone has one, I’ll concede that it never occurred to me, but otherwise, I would have happily bought the PWT or the DMP if I could have afforded it, and owned a Directstream with just the same info every other transport comes with. I would rather have total disc time, and the ability to program tracks.

Don’t have a DMP, gave up on silver discs when I bought the PWD and Bridge I. I do enjoy the album art feature on the PWD and now DS very much! If I owned a DMP, I’d want album art to work. YMMV.

Talk about a brain dead moment. I thought Route 61 didn’t sound right. I’ve seen Dylan 5 times, last time when he was touring with Mark Knopfler. The arrangement for “Ballad Of A Thin Man” very well could have come from an album called Route 66, it sure didn’t sound anything close to the original. It took the chorus to figure out what song it was. And obviously I am a big Dylan fan.
Still stand by my opinion though.

i can clearly see the picture in the DMP display from my listening seat. I like items to work as advertised and it annoys me when features don’t work.
Me too, Frank. We added the feature because we thought it would enhance the user experience. In the end, I am with most of the folks would want it but the way it’s been executed I don’t use it. It’s too small and from where I sit I can’t see it.
That said, I think in future models we either do it better or lose it.
Frank, can you read the writing? I played a disc last night that had been played before I sent it in. My eyesight isn’t great, but no Mr Magoo either. Standing straight in front of it, I could not read the print very well at about 4ft, at 3ft I could. I can see the album cover from my listening seat, but not what track I am on. And the thing is, I can take the jewel box over, and set it next to me, if it is new, or I want to skip tracks. I imagine you remember how well the PWT works with the remote? It works as it should.
I haven’t carefully tested it, but reviewers used to claim things sounded better with screens off. On my laptop the screen is set to go off in 1 minute.
I finally got to spend an afternoon with the DMP and the DS Snr, I think the sluggish navigation is the issue that might bother me. Although we were doing comparisons with an AR CD 9. On my own I tend to play complete discs.
Ok, let’s clarify, annoyed that it doesn’t work as it was supposed to, I get that. But I still don’t understand why anyone would spend time fixing their Playlist, or want one. It is getting so that every detail of everyone’s life is online. Someday they may look for people by what music they listen to. Your Country is most likely much better, here they keep coming up with more reasons to hack into people’s web presence. And that is not my reason for not doing it. I have asked what is the benefit of having that data up on the little screen, so far no one has answered that. Maybe if I could touch an icon, then tap on the tracks I wanted to play, I would then see value in having it. Do you understand what I am asking?
