PMG SACD Transport Status?

I noticed that the PMG SACD Transport is not currently listed under “DACs and Sources”. Has it been discontinued or is it just temporarily out of stock?

I also noticed that the old transport was removed from the “Factory Certified” section, which might be related.

The PMG SACD Transport was a little limited run product. No more being built unfortunately.

I really like mine, and the silver PMG SACD sold out a while ago. I want to say it is my endgame product along with PMG512. However I have made that promise to myself many times in the past.

I believe Paul said the main CD drive assembly they use was discontinued.

D&M Holdings, manufacturers of the SACD/CD drive used by PS Audio, announced that after July 2024 the drive would no longer be available. @Paul said that PS Audio bought the entire remaining inventory for its upcoming PMG Signature SACD Transport, which defined the hard limit on how many of these would be made.

Many high-end manufacturers used this same drive in their SACD transports. I don’t know what they’re using now.

Thanks for all of the replies.

Well, bummer! I guess I missed the boat on that one.

Keep on eye on The Music Room. No telling when one may show up there used!

I am also at my endgame system, except for a Stealth or Audience power cable for my powerzone, an audience front row reserve speaker cable and a front row reserve digital cable.

Cables don’t count.

That’s all? How about all Stealth line up? Don’t you need a new digital filter, a new switch (if you have one), and a few fuses too?

If I started to think what I need more. No, I cannot go there. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Thanks. I would settle for one of the previous generation transports.

In the mean time, I was thinking I would keep using my Marantz SACD 30n for disc spinning (mostly SACD since I’ve ripped most of my CDs) and then getting a PMG DAC 512 for playing downloaded files and rips via USB.

I realize this has been discussed to death but who is still making SACD capable transport mechanisms now that D&M is done.

Esoteric?

I traded in my DMP for the PST because I didn’t want to end up with an expensive paper weight one day. Now I’m in the same boat.

Can these drives be repaired if they ever bonk?

Nope, but the PST uses the same transport as the new PMG SACD. If it goes bad I suspect PSA would use one of their precious remaining stock o take care of it.

They can be replaced, not repaired. Part of what we did was stockpile a bunch for the eventual problem units so we can service them over the years. So far we’ve not had but one or two with problems so, fingers crossed, they go on spinning for years to come.

Paul. Are these the same drives as the ones used in the PerfectWave SACD transports?

Just curious as I have one and thinking about repairs/replacement in the future. Thanks!

Yes they are.

How much will a replacement drive cost if a PST is no longer under warranty and requires a new drive?

just saw this at the music room. It won’t last long.
