I was the first contact for an audio item I saw for sale recently. The seller was on the opposite coast and when I contacted him it was late at night (my time). He agreed to the price and gave me his PP info. I didn’t see that message until I got up this morning. By some stroke of insight I checked the listing before I sent the money and saw it marked as sold. I contacted the seller and he told me that he sold it to the first person who gave him the money - this was a contact from an interested party after he’d agreed to my offer. He didn’t have the courtesy to wait for a response! Really ticks me off!
not cool! Wise for you to have double checked. Good reminder for the rest of us.
Thanks Tom. I was actually a little surprised by this, as it’s not the way I deal with potential buyers. If I get contacted by someone who wants to buy something I have listed, they get right of first refusal. If I get contacted later by another party I let them know I have an interested buyer and need to hear back from them first. Cheez, it’s just common courtesy.
If someone were committed to buying my sale item first, and another buyer came in later I would for sure to check with the first one first. That is the basic rule in selling.
Key word… “etiquette”.
Typically I look at it as it is for the best, meaning it was not meant to be. I just move on. Think of it like this, after the sale had there been “problems” how would have this seller behaved.
Maybe he needed a kidney ASAP.
