plus 1 for LMS protocols and squeezelite
Rudolf, my friend!
I just meant Apple Music the streaming product versus the music file management program. Sharing the same name is confusing!
This is what I was talking about:
Hope they get the same deep integration Sonos has someday. I liked my node when I had it!
Stay safe and I’ll continue to pray for Europe!
Mike
I have an uninformed, zero evidence guess as to why Sonos has Apple Music - Sonos was very popular with Apple employees years before Apple launches their smart speaker ecosystem. Yanking it now might be a poor PR move.
Stupid theory?
In response to questions about the Innuos servers/streamers, I have been very happy with my Innuos Zen Mk3. This is the same server that Steven has used, and it sits above the Zen Mini and below the Zenith Mk3 in the current Innuos line. I do not use Roon although the Innuos gear is compatible with Roon.
When I first got the Zen, I used it with iPeng, which was okay but not as good as the current Innuos Sense app. Many people who have tried both Roon and the free Innuos app have reported that the sound quality is better with Innuos Sense. Although Roon has a reputation for being a solid full-function music management system, I have been quite happy with the simplicity and excellent sound quality of the Innuos app.
Based on Paul’s comments about the AirLens, I would be surprised if it couldn’t run on apps like iPeng or other similar apps. However, Innuos Sense is proprietary and use is limited to Innuos gear. It sounds like the AirLens has the potential to be a very interesting streamer, especially with the focus on sound quality and galvanic isolation.
These are great information and it’s good to know you like their Sense app. It is nice to have an alternative other than Roon without the annual subscription.
Agreed. Probably very likely.
Paul, are you able to tell us if it will have BNC in/out?
I was considering purchasing the Mano just before the AirLens was announced. On paper it seems to be a decent Roon endpoint with an I2S output. It pretty much checks all the boxes for a streamer that doesn’t need a sophisticated interface to manage.
The feature that sets publishers apart is software. Otherwise, its hardware is a celeron-based system or a cropped version.
Oh heck yes!
I’m also happy about the compatibility! I just don’t expect that differences between server SW can be fully eliminated by the Airlens afterwards. But this can be addressed by everyone himself by the choice of SW.
You can very easily run LMS to upnp using the upnp bridge plugin. Easy to install, easy to run. I use it with hqplayerembedded.
Now, support for hqplayer naa would put this streamer almost in a league of its own.
My wife once took the roof off her Renault Scenic. She’s free Saturday.
Just googled “DSD DLNA”. The first hit that came up was “Struggling with…” Not a great start. A few of the links seem to be related to JRiver as well, one of Paul’s recommendations. Indeed I saw Paul’s comment that there is no app for the AirLens. Is it then some form of pre-DAC and not a streamer whatsoever? I do use LMS in the house for multiroom sound. And it does play my DSD files. But I am pretty sure that DSD is getting converted to PCM before it gets to my ceiling speakers which are not DSD capable. I did not want to mix up Hi-Fi and causal multiroom listening so much, other than to share the source files from the NAS. My comments about the Bluesound app were just to say that PS Audio could do with having something with similar capability. Innuos Sense seems to be another example for benchmarking. PS: At least the Volvo plays FLAC 24-bit files from USB. Not sure about a Renault Scenic!
The Sense app is designed to look good, get you to your music, but a lot of stuff that Roon has, especially DSP, is not included. All that stuff requires more processing power, which leads to more heat and more electrical noise. That’s the theory, anyway. I have used it happily, but it’s not the full Roon experience.
I think it buffers streams differently to Roon, for which they have a Roon Squeezelite option.
Whatever they do, everything Innuos is aimed at lower noise.
Yeah, there should be an app alternative for PS Audio that looks good and keeps it simple. That would work both for (a) people who are low-noise purists trying to delay the Roon heat death of the universe and (b) people with an interest to get into better sound but who are not crazy hobbyists willing to spend all weekend balancing a tonearm.
JRiver is UPnP/DLNA compatible so it should play very nicely with the AirLens.
Great to hear…
As you know, there is just something about JRMC (even with its UI quirks) as compared to Roon that makes it a superior renderer of files extracted from a hard drive - at least in my iMac/Bridge II-centric system.
Good luck with the roll out of the AirLens.

Innuos Sense hosts Qobuz and Tidal and does uPnP. Hence why I asked @Paul if he or anyone else at PSAudio has tried their Innuos with uPnP into the AirLens. It could be a great combination.
p.s. I like easy streaming and spent a chunk of last weekend balancing a tonearm.
You are right. And I believe they are developing a more sophisticated iono solution. Right now upnp to other streamers is per upnp bridge plugin if the LMS that is under innuos’ hood.
