SanDisk 2GB Class 2

The other SD Card’s were also 2 GB, but Class 4

Who knew? I’m glad you got it working and perhaps helped others in doing so.

For what it’s worth, while playing with the DS firmware, I used one 2GB and one 1GB FAT16 SD card and one FAT32 2GB card and all seemed to work fine. None of them were marked as to their class (most were older cards that I had from cameras that now seem ancient).

Did anyone recognize that filter setting doesn’t work anymore.

No remarkable indication while changing filter status hence no SQ differences at all.

Also, the mute button is and has been inop on 2.4.4 since beta, and the phase switch doesn't seem to do anything.

I guess that makes all the switches except sampling rate questionable…

Could someone from PS Audio please schedule these fixes?

Thanks,

Wow, this new firmware sounds like a disaster. Avoiding this for sure.

It does sound great, now to work great!

A few things have come up on this thread that I may be able to add some value to:

The changes in 2.4.4 are that 1) A wait period was added to the Sample rate converter code when it’s changing. 2) A loss of signal test was added to the CPLD. These changes had a positive effect on improving pops and clicks in the engineering lab. However, on release, I don’t recall anyone saying it made a difference in the field. Dennis told me this morning he thought only one person responded positively.

Because of the poor positive response, it was not expected this code version would proliferate. I was even a bit surprised to see it on the download page of the new website. Hence I decided to put the bandwith we have for the clicks and pops problem, into research activities for other potential causes, rather than bug fixes in 2.4.4.

I’m willing to change that approach if there is substantive value in 2.4.4. I’d like to echo the question from JohnJen at the very beginning of this thread on how many find improvement in 2.4.4? Is it worth another release to fix the mute and filter buttons? I’m once again surprised at the comments of a sound quality difference to some users. As you may be able to sense from the listed changes, the software mod did not do anything to the signal processing functions of the PWD. I suspect you may find a sound quality change if we fix the button bugs. Is it worth another version that just fixes the bugs, or should we continue to look for another possible root cause, and combine it with the bug fix? That will obviously take longer.

Thanks for the lead on the SD card class. I’ll look into it.

Dave

Thanks, I’d like the sound of 2.4.4 with the buttons working.

Is that possible?

After listening and observing it’s behavior I have these comments…

  1. Hi ascii characters (umlauts etc.) show up on the PWD front display as large white squares.

  2. the clicks are somewhat better but not eliminated in all cases.

  3. I haven’t gone back to 2.4.3 in a direct comparison but the sonic differences seem small to imperceptable.

  4. the PWD can and does (if I’m not careful) hang when switching from usb to the bridge, but not the other way round.

cry2.4.4 sounds great, but how other members wrote above filters, phase, mute are out of function. Also 44.1kHz is better than NativeX… Waiting for new fw…

Hi,

after several tests on 2.4.4. i can confirm that the initial CLICKS is till there!!!

Using Jriver features of outgoing everything at 96khz to avoid…that CLICKS remain on the first song played!!!

Of coourse on all the others it’s ok…but every time you switch off and then turn on everything…the first CLICKS is audible!!!

What a pity!!! :(

Sound quality is ok too!!!

F.

Just a thought…

Since the “click” issue seems to be affecting relatively few MKII DACs, why not contact someone who did the DS upgrade [and did NOT have the issue] and see if their parts solve your problem and then use 2.4.3 that is fully functional and sounds great.

Just a suggestion and what I might do in your situation.

I really do not know…where to start!

F.

You could put an ad here in the “for sale” section to see if someone is selling their MKII parts, you could also ask PSA to swap parts with you, you could also ask PSA if they think it is the digital board that causes the clicks and see if you could do a warranty swap.

it might be helpful for PSA to have parts that produce the issues so they can realize a permanent fix.

Forget 2.4.4, get thee to 2.4.5!

As Dennis has reported, mute, filter and phase switches now working!
