I now have my very own PST. It doesn’t look too damaged.
Have I mentioned I’d rather have a May DAC than have to deal with FedEx? I hate FedEx!

Eagerly awaiting your feedback on that box (ok 2 boxes). Particularly related to DS, modified DS, Tambaqui. (and DS2 when that happens)
I have a PST on order also and need to find out the size and value of its rear panel fuse.
I want to have a new fuse ready to swap once I receive my PST.
Thanks
Tom
You’re kidding right? You’re asking Al about a fuse?
Anyway, it’s small 5x20mm slow 1.6a. Are you trying those SR Purple ones too?
More than likely I’ll be going Purple at this point.
Thanks for the PST fuse info.
Fuses are for hippies.
Wait! I am a hippy!
I am sad. My new PST does not read a CD.
(I wrote a lot more but I will just leave it at this for now)
(No advice needed)
Sorry to hear this!
Frustrating at best.
My first one was DOA many months ago, but 2nd has been bombproof.
As the remaining October days tick away, I’m wondering if anyone here, whether end users or the folks at PSA, have tried the PST through the i2s input of the SGCD. If there are any, I’d like to get some informed opinions as to whether the lion’s share of goodness baked into the new transport is lost or not if it’s paired with a DAC that while very good, can’t possibly be of DirectStream DAC caliber. Right now I’m listening to the analog outs of the rights-management-hobbled but still very nice Marantz SACD 30n.
I know it makes little practical sense to pair a $6500 transport with a sub-$2k combination preamp and DAC (in fact, the PST would be out of proportion with everything else I have in the system, too), but that’s what I’ve got, and if I bite on this PST sale, there’s no way in the world the budget could ever stretch to include even a used DSD. That’s if it can still be called a “budget” after it’s been hammered by a $4k purchase.
Craig, give me 2-3 weeks for my PST and I2s cable to get here and I’ll report back. I’m currently using a 17 year old NAD C515BEE CD player as a transport (via a coax cable to my SGCD). I do expect a huge change in sound.
Craig, I haven’t connected a PWT to the SGCDAC but did this week connect a DMP to one in my headphone only system (I’m using the GCHA as a headphone amp, and have a Decware ZBOX and ZROCK2 in use as well, as well as a TV and DVR and Pioneer Elite blu-ray player, all plugged into a P10).
Previously in this system I had used a Denon flagship universal player and then the Audiolab 6000CDT transport to feed the DAC in the system, the Audiolab and the SGCDAC being the most recent combo, and sounding very good. The DMP in place of the Audiolab is a distinct improvement . . . very impressive with great SACD, giving a wide soundstage, and a bit better with Redbook cds, though the Audiolab is very good with these. I suspect the PST is an even better transport into the SGCDAC, but you might want to consider an Audiolab or a used DMP if money is a concern–both are very good feeding your preamp/DAC.
Unbelievable !
Are they testing the PST before shipping them ?
Why on earth would they want to do that?
I appreciate that, but by that time the sale will be over. Though I’d still love to hear your impressions anyway.
You’re kidding. So the same CD plays on the borrowed transport but not the new one? Sounds like your friend is getting a newer transport back
Interesting ideas, and I appreciate hearing them, but probably not practical for me. Since I already have a redbook-only transport that’s pretty comparable to the Audiolab (NuPrime CDT8-Pro) I don’t need another. And I’m leery of spending what I’m sure would still be a good sized chunk of change on a used DMP when there appears to be no long-term future in maintaining its drive mechanism (it did use the Oppo, didn’t it, or was that just the PWT?). Plus it lacks PSA’s galvanic isolation, which the company puts so much store in as a major reason for the sonic improvements.
I’m thinking if I do anything it’s going to be the PST at the sale price. If not, I’ll just sit here quietly and listen to my Marantz until a Stellar SACD transport comes out.
Cool. I myself wonder if the difference between a PWT and DMP will be that noticeable on the SGCDAC. I guess I could find out in a while. And I have great trust in the drive in the DMP–I have had one HEAVILY in use since I was a beta tester without a single hiccup. But yes, makes sense to me for you to hang tight with the NuPrime for a spell.
