SALE ! PerfectWave SACD Transport

I just commented today that the people who pick up their gear at the PS Audio home probably miss out on the high failure rates. FedEx likes to make bouncy bouncy with the stuff people trust them to move.

Yep, grabbing a BHK Pre any day now with local pick up. Very lucky to be 30 minutes away!

They probably wouldn’t care for that tag line on the side of the delivery trucks.

Yesterday a FedEx truck ran over a friend of mines favorite motorcycle. It is destroyed. It was parked at the time. The driver admitted he was staring at his phone. Duh.

I was bragging up UPS and here is how they delivered some parts to my plating shop. Boxes were stapled and taped. Grrrr.

Yes, you can absolutely expect an improvement even if you’re not using I2S. You still get the galvanic isolation on all of the inputs. This coupled with the incredible drive are two of the major contributing factors for why the transport sounds so darn good.

Do you already have a PS Audio DAC? If not what DAC will you be using?

Fed Ex delivery is a non starter for me.

PST has arrived looking none the worse for wear. Now awaiting my ordered SGCD to hear the magic.

Would I be able to take advantage of the DSD benefits of using the HDMI inputs of my Bryston BDA-3 Dac with the I2S output of the PST?

See below from BDA-3 manual

HDMI Inputs
Four HDMI inputs are available. 1 through 3 are each version 1.4a and HDCP version 2.0. Input 4 is HDCP 2.2 compliant. They may receive PCM or DSD audio, but not surround formats.

According to Bryston, BDA-3 can accept SACD input via HDMI so shouldn’t be a problem.

Great….that’s what I was hoping. Thanks Clifton.

I am not so sure that the Bryston is compatible. It mentions nothing about I2S.

From the PST‘s owners manual:

“Although an HDMI cable is used for the I2S connections it’s important to note that I2S data is not HDMI data, and the PST’s I2S output should not be connected to the HDMI input on a DAC or receiver. The HDMI connector and cabling are used only to deliver audio via I2S.”

Then the Bryston will only accept SACD like from a Oppo Udp-205 through it’s HDMI (audio only) output and not the I2S output of the PST?

Maybe @Paul can clarify?

I tend to agree and think the HDMI inputs on the Bryston are only designed to take the Audio only HDMI output from Blue Ray players.

Indeed, I do not believe the Bryston is compatible. They use HDMI, which is fine, except then one has not choice over the DAC used to decode it. The Sony and other authorized HDMI compatible chipsets require a built in DAC inside the chip (to copyrights are protected). The DACs inside those chips are pretty sad, sonically.

Thanks Paul for clarifying. Much appreciated! I guess I’ll have to use the XLR AES/EBU output in the PWT.
