This is the thing I’ve been banging on about for a while now, while/whilst attempting to be discreet.
Which entirely doesn’t work, AFAICT.
These - and all of the prior iterations of these speakers shown here - until they were actually shown/played in public, Do Not Exist.
That seems to be difficult for a lot of folks to grasp.
If I’d heard these latest ones at some point, say, last month, that would have Nothing to Do with how they sound today. Or next week (as its a Saturday).
The point I was trying to make with my prior post about car designers (aside from them tending to talk one another on a daily basis into the Amazingness of the Current Design) was that, until it is Played in Public, It Doesn’t Exist.
And as we’ve seen over the development of this product, even then, it is still a prototype, subject to further development.
I do get the feeling that they’re getting close. But hey, now that the Axpona Deadline may move out…who knows.
The Major difference between my car designer example from the Ancient Past and today’s situation is…the Internet, the Forum, and the willingness of the manufacturer to share WAY in advance of the finished product.
I don’t see how this design can extend itself into FR-2 or FR-1 incarnations… if the goal is still a line array, are we looking at basically a floor to ceiling boxes that cost >$50k in case of FR-1 with little stubby wooden feet? basically (excuse my metaphor)… a giant p*nis? I think this design may fit better in stellar series of speakers than an “Signature” series, still need to get rid of those feet and replace with out riggers. Sorry for being so passionate on this topic… I only do it because I want PS Audio to succeed… but then again… what do I know. Going to stop now.
Sonus Faber Olympica Neo 3 if I am not mistaken? They look good too, I did not like their original Olympica’s there was too much going on on the front and with the leather tops. These are jaw dropping.
Imagine what little sense it makes to talk about the sound of a non show ready FR-30, if even the show ready AN-3 that was announced as „pre-final“ production version sounded in a way that it was totally revised.
Aside from the wrapper the tech comes in, I’ve heard the Arnie prototypes at PS audio, as well as the first and second AN3 prototypes shown at successive RMAF shows. Each design moved the SQ in a positive direction. The last AN3 protos at the 2019 RMAF were pretty.damn.good. and comparable, IMHO, to some better known offerings that retail for 2x to 3x the projected price (although that seems to be a moving target). At the time Chris was still puzzling over the midbass anomaly that Paul recently mentioned was due to a cabinet resonance. With that solved, the SQ takes another step forward.
So I have no doubt these things will produce a sound quality that, like other PSA products, will provide good value.
‘Paul / PS Audio decided to create a new type/style of loudspeaker - A loudspeaker that doesn’t look like a loudspeaker?!.’ ‘How it must scream out PS Audio loudspeaker’.
Speakers sitting off the floor so it is easier to dust underneath them, etc. Paul has mentioned WAF. Well, I thought I would ask the wife for her opinion. I played my wife the video of the FR-30 from my phone. I ‘paused’ the video and asked Suzanne what do you think the inanimate object is, (not the one wearing the blue shirt); “It’s a loudspeaker”……
After reading Paul’s post she said the style/design of a speaker is of no importance to her because, the speakers would be in my room and she will never see them. The size: if they were to go in the second system in the living room she wouldn’t like them any less or more to other makes of speakers sharing the same physical dimensions. She doesn’t like the look of FR-32: - they appear to have a cheap quality and plastic look about them. Kinda unfinished – like they’ve run out of ideas and/or money. They are black hence dust traps. She thought the stands looked hideous – ‘old fashioned on modern’, ‘why is there shiny brown against black’? She thought there wasn’t anything outwardly special, or offensive, with the design of the loudspeaker to make them more or less acceptable for ‘normal people’!
“Personally/just my opinion” – I, too, don’t like the look of the speakers - especially the risible wooden trestle supporting the boxes!! But to each his own. I do hope they sell well for PS Audio with all the work and expenditure they’ve put into creating them … But it is easy to lose sight of reality when a small group of people have spent months together designing something from an atomic level to a finished product. When the FR-30 is the finished product - will they be met with the glowing endorsements PS Audio believe they deserve … well, only time will tell …?
I was simply saying that maybe it would be clearer if, in the future, you call what you saw a rough concept/mock-up. The way you phrased it made it seem like you were in the presence of a working prototype.
I went to the effin’ door to check if the package I’d been waiting for 6 hours to sign for had been delivered.
Apparently, I was cranking the tunes too loud.
SO pisses me off when I am sitting 15’ from the door, and they don’t KNOCK. My doorbell is squirrelly. Seems like every time THEY press it, it doesn’t work, and when I go out to test it, “Ding Dong!!”
I have seen drivers push the bell…and RUN back to the truck. Don’t get why/if it may be that Attempted Deliveries may Trump Actual Deliveries.
